I like Comets On Fire's album Field Recordings From The Sun for making me happy. It's tough to feel depressed when you're being send deaf from massive walls of sound and feedback like that.

Also, ESG has some great songs for making me smile. Bam Bam Jam is brilliant. Just a funky bassline, drums and terrific vocals. Makes me wanna get down whenever I listen to it!

    Here's just a few:
    Habibi Arash - Amir Diab
Three little birds - The Wailers
Don't worry be happy - Bobby McFerrin
    Any Augustus Pablo dub

For the most part honestly any retro ragga makes me happy. Old dub is great, music is often better and tells more of a story without lyrics. If you like ragga or want more check out this thread, there's some good recommendations and I made a fairly extensive post with a lot of artists I bet you'd like.

But I'd be lying if I said any of those songs make me happier than when I'm singing while playing the guitar. I don't really write lyrics (I've written one song), I just love to express however I feel and what I'm thinking at the time. It's like a form of meditation for me.

Oh yea, and in regards to the dude that mentioned Matisyahu. His Hasidic Reggae sounds good, and obviously as roots rock is my favorite sub-genre of ragga I can listen to a somewhat religious minded message (it's the metaphors and underlying message I love). I do however find it a bit ironic that he sings negatively about ganja despite the fact that many of his fans smoke to his music (go to one of his concerts) and given his past. I'm not listing that as a reason not to listen to him, just mentioning it.

Yeah. Ive heard that a lot of people see composing music is like a form of meditation they can slip into. For me, it's more of a release of physical energy. Id say that if I didnt do it, Id probably go and pick fights or get really bad road rage or something, instead. I think playing music is something everyone should try - it's therapeutic benefits are well understated.

Ill check out you link about reggae. Ive only just started to get into it recently. Especially the older stuff. Im surprised how much I like the roots stuff, given Im not religious in the slightest, but, as you say, most of those songs really are a metaphor for the idea of everyone living together and getting along, which makes me really happy to think about. Cheers for the link!

I like all kinds of music, but there's something about a good bluegrass tune that makes me smile everytime. Either smile because of it's happy lyrics, or just smile because I'm blown away with the sound of bluegrass. :) Ben Fold's music usually puts me in a happy mood too. :peace:

Rusted Root - Send Me On My Way (all their stuff is great but this song is super happy)

And I got this song off limewire called "Enigma - Indian Chanting" and the artist is just called Sacred Spirit...I don't know why I love it so much, but its really different and beautiful.
