    Hi

Could someone please tell me why facebook is so good? Im not saying it isn't, merely that I don't understand the hype and popularity surrounding it.

I dont understand why you have to be a persons friend before you can view their profile. Surely the whole point of being able to view a person's profile is to view their perspective on their personality and interests and compare it with your own?

Also I cant find an option to browse people. On myspace I can put my postcode location in and browse people who live nearby. It seems as if on facebook, unless you know a person's name or email address your not likely to get anyway.

Please set me straight on this :)

It's because some folk enjoy the networking and games with folk they know without having to open their life to Joe Q Public. :)

I enjoy it because its a great way to look at pictures of your friends and such. I like facebook better than myspace because it has a much cleaner look to it..not a ton of colors that myspace has (can get confusing to find things). And for searching, in the search bar type the network you want to look at (i.e. your city or high school) or the actual person who you are looking for.

    1. Facebook's profiles are somewhat standardized and tend to be a lot more organized. To me the neat appearance (though not as customizable) makes it easier to read and lets you get at the info you want.

    2. You don't always have to be a person's friend to view their profile. Each person sets their security settings. More people than not probably set theirs so you have to be friends (or friends of a friend, etc) to see their profile.

    3. Facebook used to use 'networks' that you could join that encompassed things like 'north jersey', schools, etc. I'm pretty sure those have been phased out.

You can search by city and a ton of other criteria with the advanced profile search. You can also search for 'groups' that will let you find people that share your interests.

EDIT: Oh and 4. People are displayed by their real names and use real info. Myspaces tend to make a joke out of absolutely everything (age: 69 *snicker* *snicker*). And photos are done better....

    ok done with my rant.

I think what made facebook so popular is because originally it was exclusive to only college students. But once they opened it up to everyone, that's when people wanted to run in and join to see what it was all about. Now it's just addicting.

I used to like facebook for it's simplicity and it's design. And almost everyone from my past seems to have one. But I REALLY dislike the new layout. It's so messy and disorganised, takes longer to load and is generally a pain :(

Some people appreciate facebook because of the privacy it offers.
But it depends what you're looking for. If you're looking for meeting new people, then facebook is not the best place for it...
