hey you should listen to bomb threat cause hes a pro gun homophobe who thinks teachers should pack heat in schools we need more people like that
Yeah, and a crazy kid's going to shoot whether or not they think a teacher might be packing. The thing is, how do we avoid all of this. First off by promoting a safe atmosphere, which isn't helped by allowing any teacher who get's a certificate pack a gun to teach their 15 year old students geometry. I definatly had some teachers I wouldn't want packing. Or Students. This shit should go without saying, but guns have no place in a high school.
I know the debate will continue, but after Seung-Hui Cho flipped out and killed 32 on the campus of VT the debate should have ended. Hotwater
I see no problem with teachers being armed. I am far more worried about those who want to disarm the public.
The only solution would be security like that of say a courthouse or something to completely eliminate the gun threat, BUT you still have the staff which can be paid off, threatened or even unstable themselves. Aside from this, when a pack of teenagers armed with semi automatics storm the school like with past school shootings, you would need ARMED guards on duty to stop them from entering the school. That would mean a guard at every entrance, security cameras, etc. Talk about hiked taxes.
Then better invest the money in trained guards and security than in training teachers and giving them weapons.
This threads something else... Hot, would a teacher starting a shooting rekindle the debate? And this is about public schools, not universities which are free to set their own rules regarding guns. Rat, this has nothing to do with gun rights. This is about no guns in schools. Just like there should be no guns on airplanes. Bomb, lots of schools do have metal detectors and it's not prohibitively expensive, so that argument just completely falls apart.
I'm sure teachers already carry guns, like half the population.. like I said my co-workers carry guns and I don't have a problem with that... I don't know, I don't have a child in school and I am neither in school myself so my feelings about this is really either or.. People already carry guns, just making it "Acceptable" probably wouldn't change anything perhaps, but again I don't know.. like my examples of things that could go wrong, just like other situations that did happen that went wrong when teachers didn't have guns... It's a situation where someone will get upset no matter what the outcome would be...
And school shootings aren't any more common today then they were in the past. So suggesting that these violent times are reasons to have freaking teachers carry guns is ludicrous.
No kidding, still takes money to train them for firearms and get them the guns and a lot of other things besides the teacher's paycheck.
Half of the population don't carry guns. I still stick by the schools and airplanes rule. Theres no reason for a firearm in either. Police aren't trained to carry. If they want to protect themselves at a bar that's fine. But they shouldn't have the right in a school district.
That shoulda said 'Teachers aren't trained.' And I know because I've picked fights with dozens of people and I've never gotten shot, and I have bad luck.
Why is this even a question? Kids are assholes, I know because I am one. In my opinion, the chances are EXPONENTIALLY higher that some pissed off teacher is going to shoot some kid OR that some kid is going to acquire a teacher's gun and we all know where that leads.
I think guns are one of those inventions that should be uninvented. Just have a massive worldwide gun burning. And if someone sneaks one away, we'll just have to figure out a way to travel to the past .... with a gun .... and shoot mr. gun, the inventor of guns. Poetic ending for poor mr. gun, no?
