Hello everyone. My name is Jessica and I live in East Meadow (Nassau County). I moved here last year from San Diego with my 2 children. My husband will be joining us at the end of October.

This past year has been a little insane. Aside from being away from my husband (he's come to visit but it's not the same) I've also been away from the life I knew. In San Diego I had many like minded friends. I did things and had fun. Here it hasn't been so. I only have two friends and they're people I grew up with (I was born and raised here but lived in California for 10 years). I spend a lot of time with my sister (who lives with me) and her friends. Even though they're wonderful people, I just don't connect with any of them.

I feel very alone. I forgot how different the people in NY are compaired to those in CA. No one here understands me. They feel that I'm just a little too weird. It's not that I'm weird (ok...so maybe I am) but that I just have different interests and views.

Don't get me wrong. I'm very open minded and don't really mind if I'm around people who don't share my way of viewing the world. But it is nice to have people who understand me and don't try to put me down because I like things that are different. (for example when I started using a mooncup, because it's eco friendly and whatnot, my sister and her friends went hysterical).

For the past few years I've been changing things about myself. I've never really been "mainstream" but lately I've been wanting to be more natural. I'm transitioning to raw vegan (I've been raw several times and always regret stopping it). I'm stopping the use of chemicals in my home. I try to make my own clothes whenever possible (need to make summer stuff). I'm pagan. In California I used to fire twirl and I've been wanting to do it again. *sigh* I'm not political in any sense (politics tend to annoy me for various reasons).

I like to have fun. I like to do new and interesting things. I've been a bit down because I don't know what there is to do on Long Island or people to do it with. I want to meet people but I don't know how or where.

Anyways, that's it in a nutshell. If there's anyone here who would like to make a new friend please feel free to PM me or reply here.

    *hugs to all*
    Jessica

Funny, I'm from east meadow, and my name is Jessica, so for a while i thought i had accidentally posted this late at night and didn't have any recollection. hehe.

well, i've got say that you should try finding some interesting places to visit. i understand that being a mother will change your chances of getting to go out and meet new people, but if you're ever given the opportunity to, find some classes that deal with things that interest you (EMHS offers a load of them in the first few months of the school year) and meet some people there!

I'm so glad that there are other vegans in East Meadow besides myself and two other people, it makes it all the more interesting! Don't know if you're into animal rights or welfare, but I must say that some of the most interesting and eclectic people come to AW/AR group meetings and they always happen to be friendly. Even environmentalist groups are that way. The best part? They won't judge you because they're in the same boat as you.

I must admit though that Long Island (and sadly, everywhere else) is just what you make of it. For the first five years I've lived here, it's been boring and off-putting. It wasn't until this year that I finally started adjusting. Cheer up and many hugs!
