my girlfriend is acting the same way. weve been dating for nine months and i love her to death. shes a very clean cut girl and thinks my hair will be nasty and dirty, that ill look wierd etc. i showed her some pictures and she still doesnt seem to be convinced.

ive had really long hair, short hair, and mo-hawks while ive been with her. she got used to all of those and i told her she'll get used to this.

and if your girl who loves you doesnt want to be with you becuause of your hair, and even threatens to break up with you, because your hair??? well, does she really love you then?.....

she never threatened to break up with me or anything serious like that. she just doesn't understand why i want them and thinks they'll be dirty, ect, ect.

if she is willing to like break up with you over hair she isnt worth it, you should be with someone who loves you no matter how you look man.

and if she isnt willing to break up over it, its not serious and you need to just like chill man.

if it isnt worth breaking up (or boxing) over, its not really an issue. if she is so horribly unhappy with your hair again, she isnt worth it.

god help me if I were with the guy I was with at 17...lol... it happens though, and if it's right then that's a beautiful thing.

If the op'er wants dreads he has to understand that he can't "make" his gf think a certain way about them, which was what he was asking. Just ain't gonna happen. My original, (admittedly flippant) point was, at 17, decisions like whether or not to have dreadlocks shouldn't be made for a gf because who knows what the future will bring. Follow your path and you'll either walk together or walk apart. That's how it goes. But I suppose this needs to be learned for one's self.

99% of the time it is the truth sadly enough, imo do what you dig, and find someone who's life is running parallel or close enough to.

edit: it didn't grab quoted quote, hope this still makes sense

haha, the longer the hair the more the burden for you and your girlfriend. In my opinion, to be natural is the best choice to let you to be you .try to let her know that ,good luck

yeah i have had the same problem with my husband he doesnt like my dreads that much now but i have only had them about a month and a half. he doesnt think im as pretty but he still loves me anyway and thinks they are kinda cool at least. she should be understanding about it if she loves ya.

tell her YOU dont care what other people will think about you.

if she cares that is her problem not yours. seriously, there are a million and 5 women who would love to be with you regardless of what your hair looks like. hell, i would love it if my boyfriend dreaded his hair (he has the perfect hair for it). if it is such a huge deal that the whole relationship is put on pause, it isnt worth it. if you want dreads and they would make you happy, she should support it.

79 Honda:In one way I agree with you totally and in another I don't. What you said about the locks: yes. about being old: no. You are not old silly!!! You have plenty of lives ahead of you, and even in this lifetime you aren't!
