okay so I'm trying to transfer into UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) next fall, and I have to make a decision regarding the personal essay I have to submit. I have to write about a personal quality or experience I feel defines who I am, but I'm not sure whether I should risk writing about being gay. The risk is that the admission officer who reads the essay could be biased against my sexuality, and that bias could jeopardize my chances of getting into this good school. Yet, im applying to a university in one of the most gay-friendly cities in the US. What do you gals think? What would you do?
i say go for it. it shouldnt jeopardise your position at all and if it did would you really want to go to a uni where there are such homophobic people anyway.
I also say go 4 it. When I was in college many moons ago (22yrs.ago) we wouldn't of dreamt it. Your greatest strengths in life are the 1's you have over come. Good luck n please keep us posted on your outcome.
most definately. me and my friend are both bisexual and we are currently working on a piece about being gay for gcse drama. our group as a whole is very homophobic so it is just so liberating to get our point across and just sort of say 'we are normal girls too and dont actually care what you think'. people need a fucking slap round the face with reality. i dont beleive in pussy footing around issues.
lol I wrote about marijuana decriminalization for mine..... if I was able to get in to most of the schools I got into with that, then you should have no problem writing about lesbian issues
