    hello,

my names Adam, im 16 and after talking to a friend with dreadlocks i decided that i want them. i think they are incredible and most people i have met that have them seem to have an amazing personality. also, i think it shows great patience (my ears are stretched to 7/8ths and that shows patience as well)

i currently have very short hair (about 1")
i understand that i shouldnt start until its 3-4"

the first site i looked at was knottyboy, which i also understand i should steer clear of.

all im looking for is some nice, small to medium diameter dread locks and wondering where the first place i should start is.

is there any kind of guide, book, etc. that will help?

can anyone have the patience to explain what should be done? or possibly direct me to where i can find it?

    thank you.

    Adam.

    alright man
if you want to do it right
you're going to grow your hair long.
take good care of it. it will take at least a year or longer.
wash it with dr. bronners soap.

after it's long, stop brushing it.
    play with it.

your hair will dreadlock . .

    It's so easy.
You don't need any crap from any website.

Just wash with bronners, and stop brushing . .

I advise you to wait until it's long. It's easier. Trust me?

    Be patient :D

darn, i didnt want to wait a year to get em :( so its not good to start when there little?

also might i add, i have very horribly frizzy clumpy hair. ive had it to about 4 1/2 inches and HATED it. i cant grow it any further than that without it being dreaded

I back-combed mine just this last week, and my hair was maybe 4 inches long, I can't stand when it gets into my eyes either, so I just went ahead and did it. You could wait a month or two and see how mine go, and by that time your hair would be about the same length mine was when I started.

hey man i was there once i didn't want to wait like you and ive now had dreads two diff times in my life having to take them out for various reasons
i also always thought that backcombing was the way to go and wax was god WRONG!
haha if your hair is really like that at about 5 inches jus let it go and u will have gorgeous dreads that have character
dreads are a full time job man in my opinion take of them

    patience is key my brotha

mine started naturaly with just maybe 2 incges
the above advice is good but theres really no readson to wait if u go natural..ever seen dreads that started at birth?
baby hair is very thin and fine but left alone it'll start to dread in a few months

what id suggest is start now, but expect slow results till it gets lil longer buyt results will happen slow
wash with bronners throw away your comb wear a wool hat alot
wool rubbing can help but dont overdo it
    play with it
    twist sections between your fingers
wash it weekly about and either shake oit out (movement especialy when wet creates knots) or rub vigoursly with a towlk

as u find sections forming (areas of hair will odviosly wannaa group together) take each section and pull away from eachother breaking any hairs threattening to combine them (or if u want em thicker let em combine)
by the time its 4-6 inches it'll be in the dreadling stage but wont be fully mature for awhile
if your hairs as unruly as u say it'll lock up nicely naturaly and quicker then some
post pics every 3 weeks or so and watch the progreess but expect it to take a lil time

I've also stopped brushing my hair about two weeks ago. My hair is only about 2 inches long. The only thing that worries me is that most mornings i like to wet my hair to wake me up, will that stop the process?

dude you can start them anytime you want. there are no set rules, as long as it's long enough to lock up then it's long enough to start.

And if you have frizzy hair, that would be perfect for dreads. sounds like it wouldn't take long for it to lock up naturally. just read around more and you can find all the information you need.

wettin your hair to wake up wont hurt anything wet hair knots faster

get this bronners shampoo (is it a shampoo? also where can i find it)

stop brushing my hair (do i just kinda push it to keep it down then?)

bronners is an all around soap, its a pure castile soap hemp based i preffer the luiquide myself
u dilute it for different uses 12/1 (1 part bronners 12 parts water) seems about right for body and hair
lil less diluted for laundry or floors or well u can use it for anything from toothpaste to facials to dishes ..its oure enough to drink it but probly dont taste great..
    http://www.drbronner.com/
you want the classic liquid soaps not the hair care products which are conditioners
the teatree oil 1 helps itches and dandruff peppermingt or eucolyptus is very cooling anfd refreshing lavander smells nice..
i use the teatree myself usualy ayt times i get the almond ot lavander just for body and use teatree for hair

it wont get rid of em if u got em but can help keep u from gettin em
