And what's worse, it that if your young like me and dislike stupid stuff like MTV, you're a loser to the dumb students at your school. I don't like reality shows, they have no point. And people are just glued to the screen, it's sick! Like Maury, a show that just cashes in on the pain of others! I should just stop watching television.
You all make awesome points and I agree with all of you. Kaze, yes...PLEASE don't watch television anymore. It's designed to keep you in a trance. To make you believe that the only thing worth living for is shopping, having lots of sex, having a nasty attitude for no good reason, and being physically gorgeous. As for the brainwashed kids at school, trust me...you're WAY ahead of them in EVERY way. Keep up the good work and **find others** who are of like-mind!! WELL DONE!
I remember when Nick used to be cool and had really weird shows like Pete & Pete. Maybe I just thought it was cool because I was younger, but it seems like the shows are really lame these days whereas in the past they used to be strange and mind-expanding.
All throughout school I thought kids were complete morons. I never made friends til college b/c I believe kids don' start developing a conscience til then.
I'm 25 now but I remember when I was your age, I watched all the news magazines - Dateline, 48 Hours, Primetime, 20/20. Some of those still have interesting true crime tales and the ocasional consumer stories... maybe you'd be more interested in those than in MTV? just a suggestion.
yeah. I used to love watching all those family sitcoms as a kid. Shows like that used to have morals. Not anymore.
Does MTV even still exist? Needless to say I never view it,matter of fact I think the last time I took a quick look at MTV was in the mid 1990s.
What I really hate about MTV is when they started to show less music videos they created MTV2 to do what the original MTV did. Now MTV2 airs the same shitty programs.
I remember that! In fact, the slogan they used in the commercials was "MTV2! It's where the music's at!" At the time, I thought it was cool. I mean, actually coming out and admitting the fact that MTV (originally "Music Television") no longer played any music was worthy of some respect. But now, yeah, it's just the same old crap as on the original MTV. Aside from a half-hour program with a name I can't remember (although I know it has "Unsigned" in the title) on a channel I can't remember, as far as I can tell there wouldn't be any non-Country music videos being played on TV anywhere. But it isn't like MTV is the only station guilty of broadcasting mind-numbing drivel. Even Discovery Channel has shown some stuff that I watched and I was just like, "What!?" It seems that all TV stations think that the only way to compete is to push beyond the boundaries of good-taste and decency farther than any other station. It has to be more stupid, more vulgar, more offensive... And people watch it, and so it confirms what they believe.
Wow! MTV2 actually did play an hour of music videos tonight! It was from 7:00-8:00pm California time. And just when I got through saying they never played videos. Weird...
MTV is the reason that there is "Speidi" out in the world now. There is nothing I hate more than the shows about rich, snotty bitches from California.
I watch VH1... Does that count? I like the music videos in the morning. I also watch E!. The Soup is hilarious. I used to watch The Girls Next Door, because it was just fucking fascinating, man... It's like a different culture altogether. Freaks me out, that whole whatever you want, when you want it, drop-$5-million-on-your-dog's-birthday-i-you-feel-like-it thing. Haven't seen it since the original girls left. Caught Kendra a few times, though. She was always my favorite.
Hi I'm your video DJ I always talk like I'm wigged out on quaaludes I wear a satin baseball jacket everywhere I go My job is to help destroy What's left of your imagination By feeding you endless doses Of sugar-coated mindless garbage So don't create Be sedate Be a vegetable at home And thwack on that dial If we have our way even you will believe This is the future of rock and roll How far will you go How low will you stoop To tranquilize our minds with your sugar-coated swill You've turned rock and roll rebellion Into Pat Boone sedation Making sure nothing's left to the imagination M.T.V. Get off the M.T.V. Get off the M.T.V. Get off the air Get off the air See the latest rejects from the muppet show Wag their tits and their dicks As they lip-synch on screen There's something I don't like About a band who always smiles Another tax write-off For some schmuck who doesn't care M.T.V. Get off the air And so it was Our beloved corporate gods Claimed they created rock video Allowing it to sink as low in one year As commercial TV has in 25 "It's the new frontier," they say It's wide open, anything can happen But you've got a lot of nerve To call yourself a pioneer When you're too god-damn conservative To take real chances. Tin-eared Graph-paper brained accountants Instead of music fans Call all the shots at giant record companies now The lowest common denominator rules Forget honesty Forget creativity The dumbest buy the mostest That's the name of the game But sales are slumping And no one will say why Could it be they put out one too many lousy records?!? M.T.V.-Get off the air! NOW Dead Kennedys circa 1986
I think MTV really sort of planted its last nail in it's own coffin by actually not showing music anymore. I mean these kids are tuning into music television to watch the 'Hills' or whatever, on a music channel. It really must be THAT mind numbing, because these people still haven't realised. Duh. MTV is bollocks, in my own little opinion.
