for me freedom is you can be what you want, make what you want ,go where you want etc.
flying in the sky, dancing in the rain on the road, making what makes you feel good and dont care what are thinking others, expresing yourself.freedom is awesome.

What I'm saying is that it should be the businesses choice whether or not it should enact a ban on indoor smoking, certain places, like pubs, have large proportions of their customer base lost if smoking bans are enacted. Even if you build an outdoor smoking shelter, it has to be of limited shelter to stop it being classed as enclosed. No one wants to stand out in the cold in winter when they could sit at home and drink and smoke in the warmth. Certain other places, like restaurants, might have a smaller proportion of smokers in their customer base and so would either limit smoking to a blocked off area or have an outright ban.

A key aspect of the legislation is that these are places where people work, they have to spend many hours of their day every day potentially being exposed to constant smoke. It' not as simple as being a matter of choice when we are talking about workplaces. It's unreasonable that it should be part of someone's livelihood to have to accept this risk, and people should not be put in the position of having to accept it if they want to work.

A few smokers getting a bit chilly on their five minute fag break is a small price to pay for the benefits to public health. Take a coat when you go to the pub and stop bloody whining:rolleyes::tongue:

I'm still an occasional smoker and even when I was a regular smoker I always saw it as a simple matter of common courtesy, you don't smoke in places where people who may not like it will have no choice but be exposed to it. Quite apart from the ethical and legal issues, it's just a matter of simple decency and politeness as far as I'm concerned.

The upside is that their remaining customers will live longer. And their staff, as lithium has pointed out.

Sorry but I can't believe that Bush set up the attack on the Twin Towers. The reason being that if he had, he would have acted more decisively than spending the first 7 minutes after the bombings reading My Pet Goat and the next 3 days scuttling from one bolt-hole to another like a frightened rabbit.

Yet again, you keep insisting that smokers are inconsiderate. Get a grip and don't contradict yourself:)

There was a time when I didn't smoke. I admit that I smoke on rare occasions. In the past, as Finnaz rightly points out, we had non smoking areas, smoking areas and there was segregation. This worked well. What do I know? I know that yes, too many smokers in one confined area can be sick. But then you would have been in a nightclub or a poorly air conditioned cramped environment. I can only imagine what you and your nose have gone through. Your bellyaching, demonising and generally libelous comments, leaves little to the imagination when it comes to putting ones self in your sad little shoes.

Overall segregation worked. There were situations quite rightly that meant your nose would be fumegatated. But hey, such is life.

Now the shoe is on the other foot, you have got your way. There is no compromise and it swings only one way. Banish all smokers and let people like you take away the very freedoms we used to take for granted.

I am over it, but am saying, that you are a non smoker right? We have heard your rantings.

Additional. Look, Like you even I enjoy a pollution free environment. Even I like the clean air,the refreshing aroma of a running stream or the steam coming off of pine or the salty air at a seaside. But there needs to be compromise. Equality. THis smoking ban simply swings it all to non smokers and criminalises smokers. Okey so we smokers smoke. We have tried to give up but hell here we are! Stum de boosh
    :)
