How is anything he said closed-minded?

 

I used to think metal "sucked"

Back at school my friend would always play it and to me it was just loud noise, thrash thrash, groan shriek moan

But then I actually listened to it and realised its a lot deeper & more complex than that.

These days I only really like Black Metal, but I like bands like Nile & Necrophagist too.

and to the guy that said black metal was too fast, you must not have listened to a lot of it. a song like "Murdered Echoes Of The Mind" by Xasthur is very slow

Why do people judge music so much, if it makes people happy, if they are passionate about it, and it allows people to feel free, then what is wrong with it? I respect anyones decision to dislike metal, but just because you dislike it doesnt mean it sucks. Some people take it seriously. Maybe you have heard the wrong metal for you. Death and extreme metal are very different from black metal and melodic metal. There are so many sub genres. If you didnt like cannibal corpse, then you should try out Opeth, it is hard to label Opeth, they are just amazing, listen to the album damnation. I hope that you can give metal a second chance, it can be beautiful.

 

I'm sorry you feel that way... I agree that there are many metal bands that suck and make idiots of themselves, but you can't say it all sucks with your limited experience of heavy metal. It's a vast realm of various styles and sounds, not just one type, such as Cannibal Corpse... perhaps if you searched for different types, you may find the beauty within.
Not all metal is shredding guitars, screaming vocals, and bad videos...
Some have beautiful ballads, enchanting vocals, classical pieces mixed in, and unique styles. Some tell stories through the music from the first song to the last on the entire cd.
Some bring in other vocals, or change the pitch to capture the mood of each character in the story.
Metal has come a long way since I was younger, and I keep finding many bands that are way beyond Cannibal Corpse and radio bands.

And remember, just because you don't like something, doesn't mean it's no good!!!

Good that noone has mentioned alternative and progressive metal... Great stuff there... About Cannibal Corpse... They sound bad to me but when i looked at their tabs, i realized that those guys are good... I mean... Their music is sooo hard to play... And there is atleast one good black metal band imo- Dimmu Borgir... Haven't listened to much black metal although... Melodic death metal is really good too like In Flames... And Opeth is just pure genius... And this older heavy metal stuff is not entirely bad... I mean look at Maidens Fear Of The Dark... Really great song... There is so much bands that nearly noone has heard of but are really good and maybe if you hear some bands song, then you don't hear their best, but some radiohit, which doesn't have to be good... And doom metal would be really good with less growling imo...

 

hi, i love metal, heavy metal, death metal and all of that shit... but most of all, i like viking/folk/medieval metal like in extremo, finntroll, korpiklaani etc. it´s nice.

theres an aussie band called karnivool that are a bit of alright, bit poppy but still that metal edge

then you've got scene metal that girls who like FOB, like
can also be called 'hardcore'
damn time changes music terms so much!

 

i think Metal is the only that doesn't suck.
there are a lot of crap bands but there are so many good ones and its such a varied genre
And calling an entire sub genre crap because of one band is stupid.

 

There's a huge difference between "heavy metal" and just plain "metal". Plain metal sucks, but heavy metal can be pretty awesome.

 

how does metal suck? bands such as black sabbath got their influence from bands like the beatles...it's all interwound

 

System of a Down/Serj Tankian and Black Sabbath are greats bands. but plain metal.

I bet theres heavy metal that people like. But they're popular like Lamb of God. who I don't like
But I don't get how people can like bands that constantly scream so you cannot hear them.
