Hello to all you knowledgable dudes and dudettes on all things dread (and probably heaps loadsa other things!). I have myself a small problem and was hoping some kind person can help me! I am one of those that had unfotunately not seen this wonderful forum before falling long and hard into the KnottyBoy trap. I am hoping to wash out as much wax as possible very soon (which I understand is very hard to do if not near on impossible!) but was wondering what to use to attempt the cleanse. I see someone has said to use dish washing liquid/soap (and very, very hot water!). My wife has even suggested that I use our household stain removal powder which has less ingredients than the dish washing liquid, the ONLY ingredient in that is Sodium Percarbonate and this is meant to be able to shift tar stains from things! I really, really do not want to have to start over again as it would be my 3rd time dreadin in a week or so! (I had a bad Bees Wax experience before and that contained Petroleum). I am eager to hear any opinions or suggestions on how to remove some/most/all of this wax BUT without having to start over again preferably!!!! Peace.
For the really bad parts i soaked the dread in really hot water, (nearly boiling) and then scraped the majority out with my fingernails. I had to do this a couple of times, washing the dreads pretty intensely between, but i've got it all pretty much out now.
alternating the deep cleanse and bronners with added orange oil (pure esential orange oil dissilves gles and adhesives so should dissilve wax, its the main ingrediant in a product called dissolve it used for cleanning after construction)\ use the hottest water u can ..but carefully not to burn yourself wax melts At 140 f.. thats hot enough to scold..so be careful near skin
Thanks for the help guys, its much appreciated. Do you also think that it would be a good idea to seperate the dreads with bands while washing just to try and keep the cool looking shape I have at the moment? (and make sure to take them out after a day or so, as I don't want my hair having a band supper!) Sorry for all the questions, I just wish I had visited this here site before my journey begain!
not while your tryin to get the wax out..water hot enough to melt wax will be hot enough to melt rubber.. youd be askin for a sticky mess whilke tryin to get rid of a sticky mess if they loose the shape that means they were only glued together with wax and hadnt even begun to dread ..its fine if they do, they wiull reform in whatever shape they wanna form in..
