I say it's a religion and an obsession. And anyone who tries to break away should either be shunned, flogged or burned at the stake. But I might think differently after I've had my medicine.

definitely lifestyle. . . that's brought together by music and a fashion true to individual character. talking about hippy as a fashion seems to automatically put a stereotype on the term and who wants to be part of a stereotype? hippy fashion in my eyes varies too much to put it on that platform.

I think it's a lifestyle, coming from within your heart. Now a days with the kids dressing like "hippies" it seems to be more of a fashion- that is what angers me deeply.

But in the 60's there were way more hippies only in for fashion cause it was popular fashion. So i say people today are propably very much in to morale and hippie way of life :)

I never thought of it that way, good point brother. I guess I just have a bit of a problem with people who dress like a hippie, but have no idea what it means to truly be one.

Being a hippy is like being a muslim or a christian. But not one of the fake ones. Its somethin' you gotta breathe, live, an' love.

if anyone thinks hippie is all about the fashion then they are not a hippy. I may have tie dyes, hemp, and long hair, i might play hacky and disc but that is notttt why im a hippy. hippy is deeep inside me, rooted into the very core of who i am. It is the building blocks of my entire mindset. Anywhere i go, anything i say or anything i do passes through the hippie filter

To be honest i see hippy as a lifestyle.

    Hippy is (to me)

    1. Spiritual realization (thru meditation, yoga and other things)
    2. peace and love
    3. pure freedom and creativity.

    :D

i dont consider myself a hippie really, although i am often mistaken for one because of my looks/"fashion" and my lifestyle.
its been my observation that most who claim to be "hippies" really are farther away from what i and many older "hippies" ive met would define a "hippie" as being than me in many ways..

in the end i feel its just another label, and labels only serve to divide in todays society.

I really am thankfull to this thread , and the starter thereof , I have never given the question much thought..and also the other question , what is a hippie...I guess when you grow up as one you never really have to think about the definition and you just take who you are and what you stand for for granted.
