Hey Y'all! I just have a Q if anyone has any experience of both dreadheadhq and knottyboy products? i've got some problems with dried dreads and some of them are start breaking.. so my first question is: What should i use to moisturize my dreads? knottyboy says the oils and everything is good for u and dreadhq says the opposite... any suggestions? another question is: what's up with this wax discussions? is it good or not?? should it be a good idea as a moisturizer? I used to wax my hair alot the first 6months-1st year. then i only used wax after i washed or dyied them, i haven't been using wax now for the last 2 years or so.. I had my dreads for about 5 years now and as u can see in my pic I've had red dreads for about 2,5 year which led to alot of bleaching.. i know this damage my hair and may be another reason that they broke. But if anyone could help me how to "re-build" my dreads i will love u forever ! I also been fixing them with a croche needle, using a method a friend tought me. which is u twist the dread and hold it tight between ur thumb and forefinger and take the lose hair around the dread and just pull the croche back and forth and up and down to make it tighten up, it worked very well, but here to my question, is this a good method or will the dread break more easily? some ppl say cuz it actually make the hair inside break and will make the dread weaker... (?) or is there any other method to tighten up lose spots "along" the dread? cuz that's were it tend to break. or is it best to let it break and then attach it back ? i thought u could upload pic with ur post .. but dunno how to, so i put a pic in my profil of my dreads instead. not the best one tho.. take a look and give me som feedback plz! i think thats was all for now, greatful for answers!
First of all...welcome! When i first read it, i thought things are bad, like lots of breakage or some shit. Then i checked your pictures and...if I understand correctly, you think that the frizz on your scalp means your dreads are falling a part? Thats soooo not true. Wax is a BIIIIG NO...I'm not even gonna fall into that, you should read around a bit (soaringeagle's posts) and find out why. Its SOOOOOO bad for your dreads and stuff like knottyboy and dhhq are just doing what they do for money and they dont seem to know much about dreading overall. Anyway, if you seriously think that the frizz equals breakage, you're wrong, it's normal and you shouldn't worry about it. I'm kinda assuming I got it wrong since you've had your dreads for 5 years and should know about loose hairs and stuff. But yeah, the bleaching and waxing weren't good for your dreads, however they look good to me (on a sidenote, you're fricken gorgeous) and I would just worry about that wax thats possibly inside your dreads still...but i doubt it. now im in a hurry though so i cant finish talkin', but i'm sure people will cover all that soon enough. peace
heya! Thanx for your reply, no I mean , they dont break from the scalp, they break like, in the middle or at the ends.. but i think its becuz in some spots along the dread, its a bit thinner and start to loosen up like, almost as "normal" hair.. dunno how to explain it.. hehe so what can i do about that? hope u understand
Welcome Wimpy! So first of all, I think your dreads looks great, surprising especially because you've used wax and lots of bad stuff for your dreads. The thing is by using wax, you trap stuff into your dreads and mold grows in there after some time, which means your dreads won't last long and will break or smell nasty, etc etc. Crochet hook does break hair in your dreads so it weaken them. If you want to re-build your dreads, I'd say stop using any products or any method to make your dreads look better, time make them look better it's the only thing. So wash with your usual stuff (which seems to work good) but the best is Dr. Bronner or Baking soda anything like that, natural and residue free soap. DreadheadHQ or Knotyboy are just compagnies that wan't to steal your money, really is. You don't need wax or conditioner or any products in the long run, but your at 5 years and your dreads are still good so I think it's alright but they will be even better if you stop using anything but residue free soap to wash them. Hope that helped. Oh BTW your red dreads looked awesome haha, I think I'll dye mine too later this year.
Hey! Thank you! well the thing is that i dont use anything in my hair now and haven't used anything for a couple of years now.. exept when i dyed them , which is now maybe every 3 months or less. i wash my dreads just with regular shampoo but i dont wash them that often, like once every other month or so, well actually i just wash it when it start itching, also, my dreads seem to be worse when i wash them, like they're loosing up.. they shouldn't do that should they? but the thing is, now when they r really dry and start breaking , and i had them for so long, ,, is there anything i can do to moisture them? i know dreads are better dry but i think that's the reason why they break.. other than that im happy with my dreads and in fact, they are not smelly, itchy or anything like that, basically, its the dry and breaking part thats make me a bit sad. yeah! i loved my red hair! just too bad the bleaching is such a pain!
the crochetting is leading to the breakage..stop poking holes in them wash em morew ofyen with bronners or the baking soda deep cleanse the deep clense can make em frizzy but thats fine use aloe (only 100% pure aloe gel, it should be refrifgerated at health food stores) o apple cidar vinagar to moisrterize lkook around for my instructions for removing wax..wax is pure evil oh also if they are very dry and brseaking u can try this after a deep clense mix up jojoba oil tea tree oil vitamin e and aloe mix it in an olive opil base (to make it go further) then take that mix, put a lil in warm water and dump it over your dreads leave it sit a bit then rince dont do it often but on ocasion that should help alot experiment with different mixes though, no clue whaqt woulkd be the best mix for u but those ingredients all should help...so should washing weekly with something better like bronners or baking soda and ytea they look great just pleaee4 stop poking holes in them crochetting will lead to breakage
Thank you! I will try to find some aloe vera and oils! well im abit confused about the wax thing, at some places i read its good and some says its not, they feel good for the moment tho.. i thought apple cidar vinagar made the dread dry and not for moisture ?? heh thanx, i wont use the croche needle anymore, luckely I haven't used that method for long just a few times tho but the dread did tighten up very well... cheers
actually I tried using vinegar (havent found apple cider which is even better) and it does makes my dreads less dry, and it's normal that after washing they look the worse and you might think they are loose but they're not, it does this to me each time I wash but when they get dry they are better then the last time. I wear a wool hat alot and it does help too. Aloe is a very good idea to make your locks more healty, and why you see some place telling you wax is good and some that say it's not is simply because they want to make money selling wax, but wax really is evil as soaring said and I've seen lots of exemples too, my girlfriend did use it and she made a big mistake there, but her dreads are alive still. Your hair need to move to form knots, wax make your hair stick together and not move, and it traps the water and the dust into your dreads so that can be a huge problem.
the crochet hook tears hairs to shreads as it passes through wax is pure evil, but those 2 companies pay tons to advertise it through affiliate programs thousands of sites pop up all claiming u need it and linking back to those 2 sites just look every single place thaT SAYS U NEED WAX HAS LINKS TO THOSE SITES the vinager makes your hait super soft but so does the deep cleanse oh cocoia butter can be used too
oh, one more thing! what is the best way to fix my fizz at the top? and tighten the roots? (as u can see in the pictures) I have alot of it now and its bothering me cuz it getting all curly and look like shit when i put up my hair, hehe
dont be so hypercriticle (too late at night to know how to spell) the frizzyness around youir heads normalk..that is fropm ripping your dreads apart so they wont congo, you'll get that halo of shorter fuzzyness but the thing is as that gets longer guess what..new baby dreads [sprout out all over it can also join existing dreads but it can become new ones too ofcourse u can force it to go where iu think it belongs but in genberal if u leave it alone it'll do what it wants to do.. i recently stopped seperating mine the last 2 months or so because i had 150 or more long dreads and like 30-60 babies poppin up all over and was just outta control how many i had so lettin like 5 or 6 jojn into 1 all over and lettin most of those babies join with neighbours point is that fuzz isnt a bad thing it just has to grow a lil to become new dreads or join existing oines...but in genberal it will always be there..because everuytime uu seperate u create more u can use aloe (100% pure aloe gel) to tame it alittle but in geberal just dont worry boiut it
heya again! I went to the a health store 2day and found dr bronners, i wasn't sure about the aloe vera thing so i was thinkin to ask u There was a shampoo and conditioner with like 95 %,or so, pure aloe vera. is this good? should I get the conditioner one? I think they had some gel too but for hands or something... ? also, the jojoba oil tea tree oil vitamin e, should i buy this separated or is there a mix to buy? I think the aloe Vera conditioner had jojjoba and vitamin E in it, could this work as a residue free product? if u could give me some link or so it would be helpful, im not sure about the products they have here in Norway .. hehe like, what should be the ingredients and what shouldn't be in it ..? thanx again!
hehe ,, i know i am i want them to be as nice as possible the thing is that it never grow out new ones, its just curly and annoying.. and i have really thin hair so i dont think it will be any proper dreads of it anyway... thats why i want to fix it.. also, i hava few thats been broken.. how can i put it back in a nice way ?? :cheers2:
the aloe u want 100% or 99.9% pure aloe gel, it would be refridgerated and sold as a food stuff, not a haoir or hand product although can be used for eaither or u can simply buy a plant cut off 1 leaf split it in 2 and scrapre out the gell inside the jojoba vitimin e and all that u can get seperately as oils and mix them up ypirself the jojoba is lil expensive thats why i suggested mixing with olive oil tpo make it go further heatting the oil i think helps too, but u can just add it to hot water then rince it thryu..leave it on for awhile maybe even a few hours to alow it to soakj in and do its thing then rince or wash out
thanx! i bought the plant will try to find the oils too, are they best for moisturizing? how should i mix it? like, how much of each oil and water should i use ? should i try to get rid of the wax or should i just wash with bronners?
id try to get rid of the wax as much as u can wax hardens over time if its been in there 5 years ir can be pretty brittle and maybe cauyse somne of the breakage issues id try to remove that 1st then moisyturize the oils mis whatevers seems ok to you if u got the vitamin e in liquid then maybe lil under 1/4 teaspoon? but if u got it in gel pills like usualke split open 2-5 or so jojoba since it do=es the most use as much as u want but its also expensive so mixin with the olive oil to stretch it helps ..u shouldnt need a whole lot though..maybe like a dropper full.. the rest well 10 drops should be good add those piols to like a cup of warer..maybe like a capful or 1/4 teaspoon or whatever..when u add irt to the water mix it up it'll still mostly float ontop but the waters more a delivery method then anytrhing just helps spread it around when u dump it on
