how would one go about getting published, particularly some poems? would one make money, or have to pay money??? also, what are some ways to turn writing poetry/writing into a profession, a good paying one for a good poet, reciting them, writing a book or what?

Getting poems published these days is very difficult. But I have a better idea.why don't you get an out of work actor (plenty of them) to read your poems and have your poems put out on CD-rom or casette? This way you avoid the minimum quantities required. In any case poetry is meant to be read aloud.

NO! Never go Self Publication! It's too expensive!

No, man. They have links to Agents, and I think some publishers too.
    Lots of good stuff.

Step 1:find a company ( scholastic, argus, blackhorse, etc...)
Step 2: make contact, and write a good letter to the publication, or, if they allow normal submissions, do those.
Step 3: wait for a message giving you directions
    Step 4: follow them directions
    Step 5: you're done

That's how it works when you try to publish a work. This works the same way with each type of visual art.
And for poetry, why not make a poetry book with nice backgrounds? I would also recommend the CD/tape thing Bilby said. :)

The best way is to get an agent- not an easy task.

    NEVER pay to publish.

The second best way is to identify your market, find all the appropriate publishers, and then write to them. Announce your self and your work as something worth looking at, and ask permission to submitt. Include a SASE.

Also, most mags have submission guidelines listed on thier web site. If not, go back to writing letters.

One thing you can do is participate in as many poetry readings as you can. If none are going on in your area, organize one. Reading your stuff in public is a great way to put yourself out there and improve your skills.

I know, and I wasn't steping on your toes.

I was backing you up- after all, you're 14 and some people would discount your knowledge because of that.

    But you're quite correct.
