My mom stumbled on this and has been sending me marketing info on it. eace: I'm curious, but want to know the hardware and connections needed here. if I want to use this (VIOP) service, and ditch the telephone company, I do need to get broadband. Ok, I'm a DSL babe now. Here are the basic questions for the brilliant souls at Hips: how does broadband (which I connect with cable TV--shudder-- for some reason) get into the home? With Magic Jack, I'd be paying the monthly broadband (which would be all my 'net, yes?) plus the $20 annually for all phone service. how open is the broadband market in Colorado and in California? can you pick any company? any info greatly appreciated. (I use Windows XP)
Magic jack works with DSL. Broadband gets into your home through the cable tv wire because you can send more than one signal through that wire.
but if you get your DSL through your present phone service provider, and, say, they charge more if you ditch your phone service, but maintain DSL through them, wouldn't it be unwise to maintain DSL? is I think a presupposition of the question.
I have been useing magicjack for a couple weeks now, i wouldn't say it is flawless, but it is pretty stylin' for a $20 a year fee
