My dreadies are pretty new, and I've gotten some great help from you guys, but being new and all I still tend to wear a bandana when I go out. I'm getting a tam very soon, but I'm curious what sort of headwear the rest of you guys use? Tams, hats, wraps - show us some pics!!!

Also, I keep hearing that wool hats are good for starting dreads. Is this true? If so, how come?

when they were shorter, I used a headband until it was long enough to tie back. I also still sometimes use a bandana if I really need to keep it out of my face, for example work, hiking, skating, biking, etc. I actually have never owned a tam...

I've got a few different cranial accessories including bandannas, headbands, and beanies.

Pictures can be tricky to take at work but luckily I had a headband in my back pocket from yesterday and both of these hats just came in today.

    Headband:

    Oversized beanie:

    Other beanie/billed tam thing:

The headband is one of many, my gf got me a 6 pack of them at the grocery store (blue, orange, black, green, purple, and pink) I really like them since I can't pull my dreads back quite yet with a hair tie.

The hats I got off a website I can link it if anyone is interested they have a decent selection and good pricing.

After wearing headbands I never wear bandannas anymore I have probably 15 of them and they are much more of a pain than throwing on a beanie or a headband. Hope this helps some!

Thanks, I was skeptical on ordering it because the website made it look REALLY white but it's more of a beige/khaki color, I'm definitely glad I did though.

Actually I have knitted one that would fit with soaring's dreads haha, but I keep it for me eh

Wool hat does help to form knot in your hair because of the wool texture, cause movement and I guess hair like wool cause it works wonder, and it keeps your hand out of your dreads, they stay cleaner too.

ok i usualy just tie 1 dread round the rest to keep em off the floor but i got a dozzen or more hats most though flop around too much and tend to pop off after maybe 10 minutes except this 1 (dont have pics of me wearring any so heres sunshine modeling alotta my hats)
as ya can see its a long loose knot like sleeve almost..just twist up the dreads and thread em on in (takes a lil effort) but its the only hat that stays on all day but the loose knit tends to catch on stuff
(incidently it makes a great pillow for 4 when full of dreads)

this 1 fits pretty well but only stays on when 1 oif 2 peole i know (songbird or naomi) 1st knots my dreads up really tight 1st (noone else has been able to get em knotted up tight enough to not fall down in 20 min ior so)

hmm thought i had more guess not but i got a lot simular to that last 1 some with brims some without i got 1 black leather (used to be dubsides dunno how he ever fit it his dreads were tucked into his socks when mine wernt even to my waist) and another with the lion of judah on the top
and a couplke too small to even bother trying on..oh and 2 i goit from knittinchick which fit semi well but really have only had 1 tam that fit near perfect and a freind from thge forums was strayin with me a few days was wearing it whgen she had a lil ..problem and had to go to the er where they lost it..grrrr
which really sicked cause the broithrer that traded it to me (his dreads are almost as long as mine ) it wss his favorite hat and now everytime i see him he asks about it..i just cant bring myself to tell him it was lost..

i still am hoping some1 will 1 day soon make me 1 that stays on
i'd trade every 1 of mine for just 1 that works..i probly got at least 15

theyre stuff looks like typical junk no offence all the tams but 1 are tiny and the 1 that isnt is probly just big enough for dreads like world peaces ..(the hand made 1's i mean) the machine made ones are rediculouse
the crafty ppl on here do a much better job
we need a dread hats beads wraps and whatever buy sell trade type thread where knitters and dresds can get matched up with theyre perfect headgear

ya I agree, theres two 'bigger' tam and they are medium size but anyway.... better buy 2 or 3 dollars of wool and spend 4 hours doing it how you want haha

maybe you influanced me a bit for my hats size soaring haha, people give me funny looks with a hat that big and 2 months old dreads

Eh I've got shorter dreads so these are perfect for my dreads, but when they get longer these hats will become useless. But for now they are exactly what I was looking for. Lately my hair has been at the perfect length to annoy the piss out of me all the time and I can't quite pull it all back yet. Plus I skateboard so I have to keep them out of my face and these hats honestly helped so much, I'm not trying to look through my dreads anymore at an obstacle or whatever.

And I checked out someone one here that makes hats and they looked great and I loved the colors she was using but I was leaving on vacation and I needed these immediately (I think she was located in the UK) and her prices were higher than the prices on that site (I think $60 per hat compared to like $50something for both of my hats shipped.)

I guess what I'm trying to get across is that these hats are good quality and are perfect to accommodate shorter dreads on a budget. Even though their selection is pretty limited.

I agree with this 100%, can we get some kind of posted topic on this or something? Please? Anyone?

These hats are great. Are they knitted or crocheted? Does anyone know of any patterns for these?
