Adopt a stray cat which was pregnant?

There's a little black stray cat outside my girlfriend's apartment, and it's really skinny and it's missing fur all in patches and it's actually kinda ugly and rough looking. The problem is that I think that if it has the kittens and nobody takes her in, either she might eat her kittens, or they might not have a place to survive the summer heat...

my girlfriend won't let me bring it into the apartment, and I'm really poor. I've been feeding it as much as possible, but I sometimes don't even have money enough to feed myself...

What would you do if you were in my shoes?

find it a cooler place to live and try to get it food as often as possible. take the kittens to some sort of pet store. i am sure they will all be bought right away since they are kittens.

If you can't afford to feed it and her kittens, I wouldn't take it in. I would call the Humane Society or a local animal advocate group. It would be heart-breaking to take her in and not be able to help her in the long run.
    Good luck.

we took one in. we still have her. it's amazing how well they can survive on cheap food when nothing else is available. we found homes for her four kittens, got her fixed and love her completely. she's a big old love. i'll never look back.

If u cant take her in then take her to a local animal rescue center. They'll look afterher and if u can take her in later u just need to go and get her if no1 else has her.

there are a lot of cat sanctuary's around my area that take in all kinds of cats young, old, ugly, cute... no matter the deal they take them look around your area if there is one around. Contact an ASPCA they could prob. tell you if there is one or not.

I would take the cat in anyway--just to get her in off the streets and out of the heat! I don't know if your girlfriend is allergic to cats and that's why she won't let you bring it in, or if she just plain doesn't like cats (which I don't understand at all), but that cat needs a home and somebody to take care of her! As for veterinary costs, you can check with your local Humane Society to see if they have a program that will let you get her the necessary shots and things at a lower cost (most probably do)--and once she has the kittens, she should be spayed! You said she was a little skinny and had a few bald spots--but I'm sure that with proper care and lots of love, she will be just fine! I took in a stray cat a little over two months ago, and he was a little on the skinny side and had some bald spots too--but over time, he's filled out a little and his bald spots are completely gone--he's doing just fine! :) Talk this over with your girlfriend and see if you guys can't work something out--I'd hate to see anything bad happen to this cat!

I currently have a cat that I took in pregnant. Luckily we were able to find a rescue to take the kittens and then we had her spayed. However, I did find myself in your situation a few years back. I came across the sweetest, and ever-so-pregnant stray cat and at the time I was staying with a friend in NY and she would not allow the cat to come in. So I did what I felt I had to do which was take the cat to the local SPCA. They found a foster home for her to have her babies. I'm not sure if they all were adopted or not but atleast they were safe and the mother recieved care for her fleas and so forth. Much better than the alternative.
