It occured to me if the temperatures around the earth are changing, if hormonal levels in people are changing, if compositions of various particles in oceans are changing. Then what about the very air we breathe? This must be changing too.

I went and looked to see if any studies or anything has been going on that is tracking the composition of various gases that constitute our air. But nothing. Has anyone heard of such a study?

Cause I mean in all honesty, it seems painfully obvious to me, that if any sort of dimensional shift, conciousness shift is going to occur on a global scale, this could very well occur just by a change in the very air we breathe. 5% increase in the oxygen level world round would make a HUGE difference in the way people feel on a daily basis, and ultimately how they act and think. Or hell, if nitrous oxide levels rose just some decimal point percentage, that would be enough to get the entire world population a bit more calmed.

And if you believe any of the notions of gaian concious, earth as a self-contained organism of sorts. It seems very obvious that the earth would control the mood of the organisms living on it by changing the atmosphere surrounding itself.

The composition of the atmosphere has definitely changed before. It was quite different for instance during the dinosaur period, so it seems reasonable to assume it will change again in the future. Perhaps actually it is always changing but at a very slow rate.
I wouldn't like to hazard any opinion on if this is any way linked to change of consciousness, but my feeling is that I doubt it is.

An increase of nitrous oxide would be highly undesirable BTW, as it is one of the very worst greenhous gasses.

It's called pollution. Happening as we speak.

I assume it's man-made pollution you mean. But there is also natural 'pollution' - as for instance from big volcanic eruptions, which it seems has had a significant impact on the environment and also on humans in past times.

It is a common mistake to think that the environmental conditions which exist now and have existed for the last few thousand years are in some way normal or permanant. In fact, in terms of geological time, the last ice age was only a few seconds ago.

But man made pollution and climate change is a big issue. Perhaps this current global civilization will wipe itself out in a few years time.

I am not too fond of the tendency to talk of "natural" as opposed to "man made"> Man is a part of nature and if we stopped separating ourselves from it so much, then a lot of our problems would be eased.

Well actually Bhaskar, I agree with you on this point.:D
Of course we are part of nature, and technology too is natural. It seems it is the nature of humans to invent technologies.
However, I also think it's all gone too far these days without regard for the impact our activities are having on the environment and other spieces with whom we share this world. And of course, the effect it is having on us - the very separation from feeling part of nature which you refer to.
If people can wake up to the fact that they are part of nature, and really see the wonder and beauty of it all, then we have a chance to get out of this fine mess.
I really think you've hit the nail on the head here.

On the original point, one could use another form of words, and say that the composition of the climate would change whether we were here or not, but doubtless our presence is adding to this phenomenon.

    love,

    Bill.

On another tangent.... Ever think about the fact that the earth is more or less a closed system - there is almost no mass transfer between the earth and outer space, except when we send out satellites and such). Therefore, all matter gets recycled. The cells of my body may have several atoms that were once in the body of Christ and I might be breathing da Vinci. My lunchtime sandwich may have a molecule or two of the Buddha in it.
    How wonderful is that....
