I used to live on the corner of Bedford and Albermarle in Newtown, Sydney, NSW. I am American/Australian. I was born there, but my parents were born here in washington and mississippi. I live in Tennessee now, because the rent here is cheap and I am in graduate school, so I don't have no cash. But this area is severely lacking in international cuisine opportunities. I really miss the restaurants along king street in Newtown. I don't remember names, but The mongolian restaurant, the Peruvian restaurant, the west African restaurant and the restaurant at the movie theater right next to the IGA were all top notch. Plus there were several Japanese places and a few Lebanese that were decent as well.

I was a bartender at the Royal Exchange Hotel in Merrickville (203 Merrickville road.) I would kill a man for just one lamb kebab from the turkish kebab shop on the corner of Merrickville and Victoria Roads.

Plus I loved the little chinese sweets shops.

Not to mention, I would love a Toohey's New right now. Ohhh, a toohey's dry would be nice as well.

Yumm, i'm hungry. Do you live in Newtown, merrickville or the area? What's your favorite restaurant in the area?

Hey dude, I have lived in Newtown (well technically Enmore/Stanmore) all my life so it is pretty cool to read your post. My favourite would be the Vietnamese restaurant across from the IGA. Doesn't look like much, but it has the cheapest and tastiest beef noodle soap in Sydney.

Your post really makes me think about how I take the things I have for granted. I guess I have lived in such a multi-cultural society that I accept it as the norm. However, this is obviously not the case around the world. I have been traveling around a little but the thought of leaving Sydney would probabaly make me pretty sad.

At least you have great country music... at least that is what I learned from the Jack Daniels commercials :p
