First and foremost I want to make it clear I believe definitions for the sake of classification are naive. The purpose of this thread is to work out whether there is a body of folk that resemble my core values and whom I might be put in contact with; basically. I'm an adventure expeditionist. I love the outdoors, and have a deep spiritual bond with it. I like testing myself both physically and mentally against all it can throw against me. I live a life that thrives on self imposed hardship, in which I find gratification in sufficiency. I'm liberal by terms and conservative by others. I take pride in my nationality, support killing in defense and protection of the weak and advocate a strong desire for monogamy. Don't stop me here, I know I'm reeling off a horrid little list of counter-stereotypes here, but I'm just trying to solidfy my point. I'm liberal insofar as I agree with Thoreau's theory of the best state is that which governs least, and that while I've dabbled in psychotropic substances, I do not oppose their illegality. I get called a Hippy from time to time, but I see it as a tenuous link. I thought I'd come here to talk it over with actual Hippies and see if they can't help shed light on my persona. If you seek elaboration on anything, you need only ask. Thankyou for any upcoming posts.
Well I don't know man. I mean sure hippies love to go on expeditions. Especially when we're high. I as a hippy find that I have a very strong spiritual bond with the outdoors. Hence why I'm moving to a commune asap. I don't know as to testing myself I simply enjoy living in the wild. Kinda like an animal instinct. I love the feel of rain on my skin, I love the way the willow whispers on a windy day, I love the silence I find among the glades when I want to escape it all. I don't know if I'm liberal or conservative man. I would really classify myself as apolitical. I don't support killing period except when you use everything from what you kill, much like the native americans did. I don't vote. Period. So to an extent I suppose you are hippy like. But in my opinion there are only three things you really need to believe in to be a true hippy. Peace, love, an' freedom. But then thats just one younger hippie's point of view man. Peace, love, an' respect.
I don't consider myself a hippie by any means, but I do share a lot of your qualities, and indeed, a lot of stereotypical hippie ones. and I have been called a hippie at one point (a dirty one, in fact, but in an endearing manner.) in my opinion though, while there's probably a certain group of people you fit better with than others, and hippies may well be that group, this classification is unnecessary. it can be good to feel belonging and acceptance to a group, but I believe you can find acceptance without labeling yourself anything. I don't consider myself much of anything and I find I gravitate towards people of similar values and views, and I think that's just the way it works. be who you want to be, and you'll meet like-minded people along your journey.
Welcome to The Forums Walfaeder. The outdoors provides a spiritual renewal and exercises the body and mind. These forums have been chewing in the definition of a Hippie for some time now. I will lookforward to your posts.................................... View attachment 38857
I'm going to have to stop you there. I'm an anthropologist, it's part of my reason for being the way I am. Instinct is what I tap into. It is natural for the Human animal to seek hardship and tap into the adrenaline and endorphins it produces. By only chilling out in Nature, I'd suggest you're missing out on a great deal. Naturally I didn't come here to tell people what to do. But we're a strong and fel animal, and to tap into a true appreciation of nature, you need to forget that that is what you're doing. You dig? Who is more at one with Nature, the one actively living as one would in it, or the one sitting around in a Glade going "Hey, this is kinda neat". Just a nugget of information there, may it benefit you!
Yeah I understand your point man. I live in a tent down by the local river. So I commune with nature almost all day. I come into town to smoke with my cats, an' check the hipforums about once a day.
