Ugh, this is bullshit. People are too lazy to actually read the end user license agreement, then they get all pissy when they find the spyware they installed themselves! It does'nt matter, spyware's still gonna be around anyways.

its good news to my ears. i remember last year when bush spoke about a ban on spam emails, my junk folder dropped from 40 a day to less than ten within that week. im not sure if it was about the bush jibberjabber but it was a very noticable decreasement.

I disagree. First, you should have a choice as to whether you want to install it or not. If you want to install the software for whatever reason, but don't want to install the spyware, you are SOL. This bill is supposed to help prevent that from happening.

Second, I rarely ever install anything from the net unless from a well known licensed source, and yet every day I have to run adaware, and every day it finds crap when I haven't installed anything in weeks.

Third, what about the popups that ask you to install spyware while you are in the middle of filling out a form? Haven't you ever accidentally pressed Enter at just the wrong time when one of those things pops up?

Granted, this isn't going to make a huge difference, considering US laws can't control websites created/hosted in other countries.

You do have a choice, you have a choice not to install it. If a programmer wants to bundle an additional program, they can and do. Maybe you should actually read the end user agreement. In case you did'nt notice, it's end user agreement when you click yes, you are authorizing anything within that document, which may or may not include spyware.

Maybe you should switch browsers, and update. Or **gasp** maybe get a firewall, like every other intelligent computer user on the face of the planet. I reccomend Zone Alarm(no, it does'nt have spyware)

Actually, no. I use firefox, and before that, I was using mozilla. I don't have to worry about pop-ups, because I have'nt gotten one in years(literally)

I'm sorry for being an ass about it, but I don't appreciate the US government slowly whittling away the one freedom we have left. More so, I don't appreciate it when our citizens blindly accept(and support) this crap without a second thought, because they get a little extra email in their box every month.

*golf clap* Nice flame. Sure, I'll play along....

I'm a tech writer, I write the fucking end user agreements, thankyouverymuch. I also never sign anything before reading it first. That's just common sense.

I use Firefox, have for ages. I still get the spyware popups. I have a firewall, popup blockers, adaware, etc. *gasp* I work for one of the largest computer companies in the world, so I'm fairly confident I'm "in the know."

I don't blindly accept anything. Yes, there are a lot of people who do some of the things you said, but perhaps you should watch the blanket statements.

A little extra email? Do you have any idea how much money spyware, viruses, and spam have cost companies like Yahoo and the likes in the past year alone? Millions and millions of dollars. You do know how ISP servers work, right? Have you no clue how bogged down they are because of spyware, viruses, etc? Do you not think that affects EVERYONE, no matter how careful you are?
