I have always looked at it as being more a belief system , or a religion , because it becomes your life and who you are.

It comes from within. You can't wear it like a badge or a shirt. Like the one above me said it is what defines you. Wear it well.

    Peace

depends on what your definition of being a hippie is...

some people think hippies are the people who have dread locks, smoke pot, wear tye dye shirts everyday, and say "psychadelic" every other word.... if thats your definition, then its totally a fashion.

but if you define it as someone who wants to keep the peace and will stand up for what they believe (no matter what it is).... then its totally a lifestyle.

its really just however you see it i guess....

Right on, I like that. It really is true. I don't really know that any hippie would answer that it's all fashion. I think after a while you may adopt a certain look, but it sure is not a requirement.

I think it's 100% a lifestyle, however as we know all to well people take things at face value far to often. So, many (actually most) of the "hippies" I see nowadays wear clothes that are steroetypically "hippie" clothes and talk like it too, but they don't act the part. It's sad really, I'd rather have those people simply not even make the petty fake attempt they make at being "hippies" than dress and talk like one but fall much further than short of actually being one. But hey, most people buy in to fads, or just do things to be perceived as different when in fact they are the same as all the other inconsiderate beings that seem to make up the majority of people these days (Holds true for the states in my opinion). Oh and the town I live in is supposedly a "hippe town" too, so I see it all the time.

So, it's a lifestyle, however it's taken on the same role as any typical fashion.

i would see it as a lifestyle or a special type of religion. i think the fashion is just another way to say ''hey, i love sticking out. i don't care what you suburban lawyers think! let's all be strange''

Lifestyle. I mean there are some fashionable trends that go with it I suppose, but it's a lifestyle.
