The Ratdog tour has been cancelled. see rat-dog.com Bobby is exhausted. Lets all send good vibes his way so he recovers quickly and can come back out soon. Peace&hugs all
Thanks for the info. After getting paid tomorrow, I was going to buy the tickets for the Norfolk, VA show. I guess DSO is the only show i will see this month then.
Bobby was on four tours this year. He really is spent. GDTSTOO is working out refund details, but nothing official yet. Send love to the entire organization that puts on the Ratdog extravaganza. They need it.
Since Ratdog is such a spent concept anyway, GOOD RIDDANCE!!! Gosh, TarHead...That's awful mean... I don't know... I'm just tired of all the Dead dinosaurs still playing the same old grooves when they are multibillionaires...I have been bitter since Jerry died. And to see all these kids proclaim the greatness of The Dead, or Ratdog, or whatever, just frosts my ASS...Jerry Garcia is DEAD... And it hasn't been the same for me since...There is lots of new music out there...And that's what I devote my interests to these days... But this is a free country... to each his own... And I do hope Bobby recovers...I'm just being the mean-spirited elitist hippie... And there are plenty of those around... Guess I'll take a bong hit and chill out... :H
I go back and forth. I did find Life after Dead (and i skipped Phish, mostly). I teased one of the Ratdog members about him playing in a cover band, to which he points out that the author of most of the songs is the bandleader, "so its not a cover band, you short freak." ah ya can feel the love. I'd rather see Bobby on a bad day than DSO on any day. I've seen flat Ratdog shows and I've seen stellar RD shows. Same with pick-a-band. I return to RD to see my buddy. Bobby's OK too. but some nights, IT comes through with an "i'm not through with you yet" attitude and that is magic. I've seen purple energy cones on a RD stage. I've seen crowds swept away in the moment. I have been taken by IT at Mark's feet (I leave the spit zone to braver souls) and felt those million-watt smiles that usually need assistance come of their own accord. Do I wish Bobby'd write more? Of course. John Perry Barlow's writing with SCI and some others these days. Wonder what two recharged partners could do? Then again, we could get 'Corrina.' I just chase the vibe, not the memories.
what...the...fuck. Looks like Keller Williams is the only one I'll see before the end of the year now.
Tired Bobby Hes gettin' a little gut goin' on so ol' Bobby's a little less resiliant these days. Its gonna happen but its very uncool. It was honorable for him to try though. Get some rest Bobby! You guys are gonna need it!
~ No Tarhead, things are rarely ever the same, lol~! Bands have always gone on even after deaths of members, why should they be any different? No, its not the same but what in life ever is? At least its music they helped to create. The band I have a bit of trouble with is DSO. Nothing but a glorified cover band. I know lottsa people like 'em and thas all cool. Why theres more than one band in the world, but to try to recreate exactly whats alreadt been done by better? eh...
Agreed MomChild... Even as I posted, I realize I was being a little on the "critical side." It's not the Schwag, or Cosmic Charlie, or any of those other GD cover bands... At least Bobby is legit... And I am being "unkind" to my elder statesman by dismissing his fatigue and need for a break... I wish Bobby no ill, though...I hope that, at least, is evident. But I'm enjoying the vibrant new music that today's kids are writing and playing...As a 32 year old, I am predominantly Gen X, but it's nice to see all these kids who are 7-10 years younger than I am making this really compelling music... This can be evidenced in bands like North Carolina's Barefoot Manner, Georgia's Moonshine Still, and many other bands... So, I'm enjoying all the new things, and getting bitter about the old... But your point is noted MomChild...
~Oh bullshit they don't for fucks sake~!! Did you get a load of his tour dates for last year?? Shit a man ten years younger would still have his dick dragging in the dirt. And yeah, I understand whatcha mean TarHead...theres so much new and terrific music out there to discover, and after the last Dead show.....pfffffffft~ I had a great time but that was because of who I was with.
Yeah I doubt its for rehab... First of all if anyone has ever been a student of the band you would know that Bobby has never been into hard drugs in the first place and even if he was I would think that rehab could wait till after the tour anyway. The man is getting old. So he probably needs a break.
Yeah if you knew your history, Bobby stopped using drugs a long time ago. He did look pretty tired at the end of the summer tour. Anyways you just gotta hope for the best, and think about it, it could be alot worse.
Bob Weir needs a nap! I don't know man, Warren Haynes probably hasn't been home since the 70's, I dont' know what he's complaining about.
I agree. Bob is old and tired and sober. You need breaks every once and awhile if your not gonna injest stuff to keep your body going. I wish all the best to Bobby and I hope he gets well soon As for the people that knock the Dead or Ratdog think of all the kids that still need kynd influences. I'm was too young to go see Jerry and I feel like I got jipped but I'm grateful for being able to see his legacy carried on by his close friends. It may not be the same but it's always a good time and inpirational. Peace & Love
