Really, if you think of something, no matter how random or crazy, there's at least one other person who's thought the same thing. I hated long distance running, back at school, I use to think it would be cool If I could just sit in like a motorized wheelchair, and it created a holographic image of me running around it, so it looked like I was running while I was just sitting down. Pretty unique thought right, turns out some other guy at school had the exact same idea, how random is that.
I don't think that's true! In 1899, the commissioner of patents and trademarks said "Everything that can be invented has been." And clearly, that's not true. I think people just can't imagine the world being anything more (or less) than what it currently is, so the same ideas get recycled but eventually, completely revolutionary ideas come about.
Of course there is unique and original thought. How the hell do you think we got Twinkies. No more than one person would ever come with such a thought like Twinkies. Peace
I think a lot of people come up with the same thing, be it Twinkies or whatever it is, it's just that one person actually goes ahead and does it, instead of just sitting around daydreaming about things.
Ha, didn't read the sarcastic sentence at the end of the post. I'm a jackass. ....but a sexy ass jackass.
...Yeah, I find this thread kinda funny...Since last night I was educated on the subject of how lame the concept of intellectual property is by another poster..
Oh I've met the people. And they aren't the bright stand up kinda people you'd expect by unique though. They were completely cuckoo.
right. but if you take the ratio of original thoughts to unoriginal or repeat thoughts, it never really happens.
I dunno...the odds are against all the people who disagree. If you think about the ~8(?) billion people alive today and all who were and will be throughout time, there's a good chance that the vast majority of thoughts are repeated. Now, I wouldn't say that they're all identical, but the general concept would be the same. As, naturally, all our experiences and lives shape our thoughts and perceptions, only the general concept of whatever you're thinking can be shared. It doesn't mean you're unoriginal, it just means that there are plenty others who have seen the light in the way you have too. It's a thought connection to people you have never met and may never meet. Think about it, it's a cool concept. I don't see why people are so concerned with having original, never-before-thought thoughts. We're all human.
