Alright so I am sort of entertaining the idea of getting dreadlocks sometime in the future, but i have a few questions as to whether or not it would look good on me..I would hate to put in all that time and effort just to have them turn out poorly.

So I am white, have REALLY straight hair (which I read wasn't really a big concern, no?), and I have a cowlick in the front of my hair. I was wondering if the cowlick would make much of a difference on the general appearance of the dreads or not? Plus, I am a little on the chubby side and as a result have a bit of a baby face :p , so i was also wondering if you know of anybody or have seen somebody with dreads that is a little on the larger side and whether or not it looked good on them?

Please be brutally honest in your replies because I just want the truth, and thank you in advance :)

i think dreadlocks look great on everybody, Its a journey, and its natural hair. Go big or go home, and for god sakes let go. Let go of control, let go of materialistic views, let go of others opinion. Let go of all of that and in the end you will discover yourself. Good luck on your journey!

    cowlicks get swallowed and disapear
plenty of heavy ppl look amazin with dreads
everyone looks great with dreeasds..umm but stop thinking of all that effort dreading is effortless unless u hold onto that addiction to control you can put thousandsa of hours of work into your dreads..or not1 single minute..
in the end though what ya find is u get rewally frustrated with the results if your not havin em come out like u planed,, if u plan it out and waste alotta effort but if u preytyy much abandon comntrol let em do what they want (within reason) then you cant help but love the results no matter how they turn out

Dreadlocks look good on anyone that loves their own dreadlocks and feels good about themselves in them.

I'm a chubby girl and I feel I look great in them.

dont worry/think about it. just let your hair be and it'll be natural... thus look natural and great

I agree to an extent (don't spend hours a day imo). I let mine go for a while (no washing, no ripping, no anything) and all of my dreads on the back of my head latched together. I am now left picking up the pieces, ripping them apart (they're fine now, I caught it in time). So don't follow what they say about doing nothing, it will only result in disaster.

I totally agree. I only started dreading about a month ago but already I feel so much better just letting go, letting my hair be. If you want it.... do it. And I mean YOU. Personally I love them on anyone. I'm all in favour.

Well obviously it depends on who you ask; what "looks good" is all a matter of opinion. There are people out there who think dreads look terrible on anyone and everyone, and will loudly exclaim this (I've already gotten a lot of grief for dreads). Then there are open minded people who really don't care what other people do with their hair, and people who simply love dreads. If you're asking the opinions of a group of people who all either have dreads, want dreads or admire dreads, then obviously you're not going to get anyone telling you that they look like crap.

So basically, I think dreads look good on almost anyone. I don't see how this would be surprising, seeing as you posted your question in the Dreadlock sub-forum; of course we all like the Knotty Locks! But even if some people don't like them (there are a lot of people who don't), who gives a shit? It's your hair, and all that matters is that if you like them or not. Don't worry about other people, because I imagine it must get exhausting if you do.

dr bronners is what alot of us use
its not a "shampoo" exactly its a pure castile hemp soap the tea tree oil or pepoermin t or lavander ones are most liked
tea tree will help itchespepermint feels coolingand lavender just smells nice
    but this is semi important
    dilute it
12 parts water 1 part soap
    yes its that concentrated
u can use it for anything from laundry to flooirs to9 hair body and evebn reeth (doubt the taste is great tho

u want to avoud anything with chemical names like sulfates and we;ll if the ingrediants dont sound pure and natural avoid it

    u can make your own
baking soda lemon juice sea salt and tea tree oil is what i use 90% of the tim,e now

what are you talking about dude? all I do to my hair is wash it and rip occasionally...I consider that pretty close to nothing. and my hair is not a disaster.

No. Washing and ripping your hair is far from doing nothing. Doing nothing would be to let your hair alone; no washing, no ripping. You may misinform people by telling them to "do pretty much nothing" when what you really mean is "wash and rip your hair."

Washing and ripping is all I do, and I consider it more than doing nothing.

I have done nothing in the past, and it was not well.

sorry to bring up an old-ish thread again, but ive got one more question. Where would i find Dr. Bonner's Tea Tree Oil? Would i be able to find it somewhere in Toronto, Ontario (Canada)? Would a place like Shopper's Drug Mart sell it? Thanks again :)
