I play the tenor sax not so long, but maybe from this reason I have problems with breathing. My respiration doesn´t last so long, or better, it last veeeery short time ) Have you got any ideas like to make it better ? Do you know some breathing exercises or good advice ? Thanks !
You could try some yoga breathing exercises a lot of them increase your lung capacity and endurance. I don’t play instruments but I do yoga and they do improve your lungs it takes a month or 2 to really stat noticing the difference but it does work. You have to be careful not to over do it and rest afterwards or it can stress your heart and respiratory system. Might help your lungs play better. If you are interested in that type of stuff B.K.S Iyengar has a really good book with lots of breathing exercises called “Light on Pranayama”.
Thank you so much, i didn´t replay, but I was looking for some good books. Think it´s better, really. Thanks.
ive been in band for seven years now, i played trumpet up until this year, and now im temporarily playing french horn.... our band takes things VERY seriously (alot more seriously than they prolly should...) so weve always had someone come in and make us actually practice our "breathing" for almost an hour everyday. i always thought breathing excersizes were stupid and pointless until you just asked that question.... my advice to you, is when you breath, start with the air in your lower stomach... you will want to take deep, hot breaths and your shoulders should NOT move until the air has no where to go.... i know this sounds cheesy, but think about a cup.... when you pour water into the cup, where does it go? it goes straight to the bottom of the cup then raises to the top, and overflows when it has no where else to go.... thats how you should breath. start with the lower part of your stomach, then all the way up.... always try to expand your range of how much air you can take in... just practice everyday and even though it seems stupid it really does help. (if your going to do breathing excersizes though always make sure you stand shoulder length apart and relax when your done.... if you get light headed or dizzy then its normal... just take a break when you need to so you wont pass out!) hopefully this didnt sound too rediculous and maybe it helped some... GOODLUCK!
