I have been reading on a lot of sites that lettuce opium comes from all species of lettuce. Is this true? Or do I need Wild Lettuce? It'd be kind of interesting if I were able to get lettuce opium from a dinner salad.

All lettuce has that sedative chemical in it that they call lettuce opium. I don't remember what it was called exactly.

    Lactucarium - that's what it's called.

Is there any way to extract the chemical from, say, iceberg lettuce, and be left with a resin, or do you think it would be a waste of time and good lettuce?
