Agreed. It's a fairly decent movie. I don't think that actual movie compares to a lot of other movies, but as was mentioned, it really does have a strong message.

This was my first experience of a pixar movie. I have to say it did look amazing, and the actual film wasn't too bad. I didn't feel too bored throughout, which was what I was expecting.. So, all in all, not a bad experience.

If you like CGI artwork I would suggest looking at Ratatouille. I loved not only the animation but all the background scenery. True artists at work.

I got around to seeing it and it pretty much met my high expectations. I thought it was great how Pixar made the subtle shift from characters who were basically human with toy/fish/bug quirks in their anthropomorphism to characters that were robots with human quirks. They had a different depth than anything before.
Someone told me they thought it was too cute, but the great thing about Pixar movies is that they can be family-oriented and cute and still have great characters, story, humor, creativity, and even strong messages.

I put off seeing this for a long time, because, as the OP says, I thought it was a kid's movie.

    WOW.

This is the absolute best movie I have seen in a long time, which is actually surprising because I never would have thought an animated film would have this much GUTS. I haven't seen Slumdog Millionaire, but there's no way it could have been as poignant as this. I can't think of too many movies I've seen recently that tackled issues this big and this serious in a way that still left room for things like hope and love. Whereas movies like 'Watchmen' are GREAT at telling us we suck and we're doomed, this movie had the guts to say 'we're doomed, UNLESS', which is far more engaging and far more difficult to pull off. But they did it! Believing in basic human goodness is such a refreshing change!!

This is probably the first film I have seen that has bothered to wonder what all these 'personal entertainment devices' are doing to us... for that reason alone, it is a masterpiece. But even more amazing-- this is a cynical, cynical, dark film that still appeals to the whole family... because it doesn't just embrace its darkness, it also offers a ray of hope.

These are some of the ideas that fascinated me:

    1) The idea of a robot being the catalyst through which people rediscover their humanity.
    2) The idea that laziness and not taking responsibility are actually more destructive than some nasty and/or evil supervillain, terrorist, whatever.
    3) The idea that consumer culture coddles us while destroying our humanity (well, this I already knew, but seeing its potential effects put up on screen like this was still illuminating).
    4) The idea that more convenience is dangerous.

I could go on, but my brain is tired...

If you haven't seen this movie, SEE IT NOW.
