The trouble for me is that as a schoolteacher, my job is at risk. I could get fired if my bosses found out I smoke bud. I am not the only schoolteacher I know who smokes, either. Nonetheless, in our culture, cannabis is still considered BAD and the straight community rules.

There is an annual Global Marijuana March, I've participated the last couple of years in Minneapolis, MN. It was a cold wet walk through the city, but I always enjoy stopping traffic and seeing the support you get from people sitting in their yard, driving in cars...etc. I think it's a great experience. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Marijuana_March

Stand by your convictions. Smoke weed, get canned (and stoned).

Hell, if you walk in Missouri no one in California will know.

Forget it. Play their game. You gotta eat.

This is so true. But I'm starting to think mabey straight society is actually the minority, they are just ruder, and louder, and they got us scared with laws and what not. Even just a rumor is enough to ruin peoples lives. The older I get, I am amazed at the number of normal, productive, non-alternative, upstanding citizens that smoke pot. They have to sneak around like children to avoid someone finding out. This is ridiculous.
Just imagine, if by some magic spell you could have everyone in America that smokes weed, with you on that march... I guarantee It would be the largest gathering for a single cause in history.

There are over 200 cities across the world that hold a marijuana march on the first Saturday of May. If you have never helped organize a Marijuana March I recommend contacting the people organizing the one nearest to you. Kansas City is having a march in 2009. Help them organize the march for next year and once you feel you have enough experience you can hold your own marijuana march in your town or city. Here is a very good article to read on how to start a legalization rally. http://www.cannabisculture.com/articles/3154.html (the best one you will probably ever find)

http://www.globalmarijuanamarch.org/ (118 cities already signed up for 2009!)

You can get fired for smoking marijuana (maybe) but you cant get fired for supporting the legalization of marijuana. There is a great organization of teachers called Educators for Sensible Drug Policy. Here is a link to there website. http://efsdp.org/ They will be able to give you more details on how an educator can safely become a activist for sensible drug laws.

I wish everyone who believed in legalizing marijuana would stand up and do something about it. If we did, it would have been legalized decades ago.
