I first used wax when starting my dreads 2 weeks ago. They didnt look bad but dandruff was horrible...most ppl here seem to think wax is a bad idea. After washing my dreads last night in vinegar and baking soda to get the dandruff out most the wax came out too now my hair isnt hardly knotting at all. So what should I do? College starts back next month and i really hoped to be sporting decent looking dreads.Should I redread and use wax??? Maybe a little or what? Please Help someone. ~SKiLLz~
I locked mine up this time with no wax at all, just used a very very fine tooth metal comb and they are coming along fine, some in the back didn't lock yet but that is ok, it will eventually...... We palm roll all the dreads every day, once in the morning when I am getting dressed and then at night when I am going to bed......... and it seems to keep them pretty tame during the day....
My dreads seem to "unlock" when I get out of the shower also, but once my hair dries they seem to lock up even more. And I have yet to use wax (and my dreads are in the early stages; about a week). I must say, that despite not using wax, my hair is already knotting up and improving. I have at least three or four "dreads" already, that are pretty well knotted and just need to mature. If you have to slightest about of patience, you can dread your hair without wax. The rewards are much better as well, since you really "earn" your dreads that way. And about going to college... who cares if you don't have dreads when you start? You should get them because YOU want them, not because you want other people to be happy. Your dreads will come in time, every person here who hasn't used wax has managed to receive beautiful, natural, terrific dreadlocks. It just takes time. If you're vain, then I'd guess dreads (especially the natural way) aren't for you.
Wow your reply was very beneficial...no vanity isn't it I just hate to walk around with what i got atop my head now...then again maybe is suppose to look like it does in early stages and I should just wear a tam.I do understand I have to be patient and I dont mind that but I just want to know if I'm doing things right and from your response I think I am except for the wax...which I'm stopping immediately. So...once the wax is out do i just palmroll...tease em and wash once every 4-5 days? Also how bout elastics do i need them? Should I take them off?
HAHAHA!!!!! ummm yeah id say who cares what it looks like when college starts... dont touch wax... in fact dont do anything. i guess you could palm roll but seriously, just let your hair do its thing.
How would you go about crocheting hair? Maybe that's an obvious question, but I have no idea how that would work....I don't have dreads, but I crochet...and curiousity is getting the best of me. eace:
crap just wrote a long reply and lost it somehow so i'll try to recreate wax= dirt moisture mold and mildew permenantly stuck in your dreads, end result in most cases, loss of dreads (thankfuly cause they tend to be smelly sticky stiff and gross) crochetting=poking holes through dreads over and over just to force tame a few lkoose hairs that will in time find theyree own way home, the end result,,,,holes through dreads tear apart the hairsds it passes through, weakening dreads significantly, possibly leading to breakage .. palmrolling= useless really, its an attempt to force dreads into unatuyral roundness and uniformness, end result weakened dreads (not near as bad as crochetting though) less unbique dreads, hours and hours and hours opf wasted time does nothing or nearly nothinmg to actualy help dreads dread my advice continue the wax removal your 2 week dreads shouldnt be very tight now anyway, the fact they unraveled is a good sign that ya at least got em semi unglued, ..keep at it tiull your sure all wacx ids gone even if your hair returns to normal in the process once all wax is gone if the sectioning survived at all, .,,,leave it be wear a tam wait.. if it returned to normal, u can choose to follow the abbove advice or..backcomb ..just once..then leave em be.. dreads are enjoyablke to me at least cause the less u do to em the better the journey..i hear about people spending like 4 hours a day every day fussing with theyre dreads trying to make em perfect and i just gotta wonder why the hell they'd wanna do that.. to me its a pain in the ass enough to spend an hour every week or 2 washin em & 5 min a month seperatinm em so they dont all congo too much the enjoyment of the dread journey doesnt come from spending time fussin with your haoir it comes from all the other things ya can do with that time since ya dont gotta spend all thast time in front of a mirror making sure every hairs in the right place.. ok that was not anything close to the oringinal post i lost but thats ok... oh and if ya start college in a month nothing at all will gwet ya dreads that fast..only dread like but if ya backcomb and leave em to go do theyre thinmg, in 3 months ya could have fairly dready hair..
