I am a non-denominational christan. I dont attend church often, not that I have a problem with it. But in a year I'm going to be enlisting in the Marines (do not want your opinion on that matter, please), and I was just wondering how people believe God approves or disapproves fighting in the military... please give me some insight on this, thankyou!
Your entitled to your opinion.. wont argue with you. Anyone else want to contribute, preferably an actual christian.. being as I came to the christian forum for support, not athiests or anti-war fanatics.
Bro where do you get off calling me a future baby killer, get fucked. You wanna sit and rant about my choices instead of offering any real insight.
Thou shalt not Kill -God Theres your answer, I would assume that god feels as if you no longer care what he wants. If you join the marines, you will kill or be killed. You may kill innocent people, this is a fact you must face.
God has no opinion. Only you do. Whatever you do in life, always be mindful that you are the one who pays for your actions. Choose them carefully. The Marines may not be a wise choice. Should things go badly, its going to make your momma cry. Your actions also affect those close to you. Again, choose wisely. x
If you want support and feedback mainly from Christians, you should try the forum "Sanctuary". Otherwise, what you'll get on this site is a lot of anti-Christians.
Don't listen to these guys man. There's nothing wrong with Joining the Military, or going to Iraq even if that's what you want to do. But you really need to ask yourself why. The most profound statement I ever heard from a Marine was "Ask yourself this: How many of your freedoms are you willing to give up for the benefits? (and believe me I'm not talking about college money)". For the hippies or whatever on here, I know they don't and never will understand what I'm talking about. They think that love is the answer to everything and that simply isn't the case. Did love solve Hitler, and Hirohito? NO, organized WAR solved it. I wonder how many people's lives would have been saved if America had stood by Britain and declared war in 1939 instead of 1941 after being attacked. I wonder how many of our boys had to die because we waited for Germany and Japan to get to their peak of power before participating in the war to destroy them. War is TERRIBLE in every sense of the word, and I know this very well. When you hold 300 German death cards in you hands with names, ranks, photos, etc and think there were 7million of those poor bastards who were killed, not to mention the rest of the countries, you realize the true cost of war. Simple positions, like a bridge or bunker are paid with the blood of a few ordinary lives. Yet war is sometimes necessary. I wonder what will happen if we pull out of Iraq, and how long it will be before we have to go and finish the job, like with North Korea. Iran, wants nuclear weapons, and people say not to invade them? That's right, lets just let a nation of suicidal religious fanatics have a nuke, because that is definitely in the best interest of peace in our world. I personally don't support Bush, infact I hate him, and I hate Democrats even more. In a sense I do not support the war in Iraq, I support A war in Iraq, and every Marine I've talked to (which is many believe me) believe in what they're doing over there. These religious fanatics in Iraq, and who come from around the world to go to Iraq to fight Americans NEED TO DIE, pure and simple, because the word would be far better without them. They are not only a threat to our country, but anyone who doesn't believe in Islamic law. If you ask an Iraqi insurgent (which is stated in all of their videos which I've watch 100's of, know your enemy right?) what is it they want? They want a country that is completely ruled by Islamic law, and a world devoid of infidels. I remember speaking with one Marine and he told me one day while they were patrolling the streets in 2004, a little girl came up running to a Marine crying. The Marine bent down to help the girl and she blew up killing him, two other Marines, and wounding many more. Call a Marine a baby killer if you like, but I know who the real baby killers are. I know that Bush and his group of goonies are making tons of profit off of this war, putting the lives of a lot of innocent people at risk, such as this: One Marine was telling me he had to escort empty trucks on a convoy that went to the destination empty, and came back to base empty, putting the lives of himself, other Marines, and the contractors who were contracted to drive the trucks (who are unarmed). Why? Because if one of those trucks is destroyed, Halliburton gets to buy a brand new one at the tax payers expense. Ultimately War is wrong, but that doesn't mean it isn't necessary. So people here will call you brainwashed, malleable among many other things, but it is because of the sacrifices of men who fought in the same uniform you and I want to wear that they are able to sit here and say what they wish with relative freedom, and in English btw, other that under a super Nazi state, or speaking Japanese with the Emperor as our image of God. I am curious about why you're joining though, I am joining in about a month or so. I want to go into the field of ordnance where I can hopefully become a small arms technician. You also need to realize the risks. You could die a very horrible death, and I do mean VERY horrible. You could get wounded and live the rest of your life in a wheel chair, among many other terrible things. You need to think about this very carefully before you do sign those papers, and also realize that once you sign those papers you are PROPERTY, pure and simple. However, I am not a Christian but an Atheist, so for me killing religious fanatics will have no religious repercussions. I think you need to ask YOURSELF why you're joining, not God.
Couldn't have said it better. People seem to think war is something glorious and maybe even fun. War is only fear of dying, and trying to stay alive by killing the enemy.
You're asking hippies, notorious anti-war activists, what we think God thinks about people in the armed services? I wouldn't presume to know what God approves or disapproves of, but I think (or hope) generally speaking (S)he approves of people who try to do right the best they can, according to their own conscience and judgment. I think there are two instances in which it could be justifiable to use deadly force against another human: self-defense and defense of another innocent person under attack. The latter could apply to Iraq. Bush definitely screwed up the way he took us in & his reasons for staying there don't make sense either. But some people in the know think a bloodbath could happen over there if the U.S. pulls out too soon, because it's partly a civil war, with factions who've been hating each other for centuries and their foreign backers waiting for the opportunity to do each other in. Then there are also those foreign Al Quaeda jihadis who don't care about killing innocent civilians. War always involves moral ambiguities ("collateral damage"?) & you wouldn't be your own person, but it's possible you could be saving lives. That's something you need to sort out on your own. If your motives are good and you've thought long and hard about what you're doing, you ought to be able to live with yourself and stand proud. That's just my opinion as one non-denominational Christian to another.
Love and peace could have solved it, but people opted for the barbaric method. As far as saving lives, I do believe that many people died during WWII, did they not? So exactly who was saved, the British and the Jews in extermination camps. That much is true and it was a shame that they were mistreated that way, but many Germans and Japanese died too. The atom bomb, the U.S. dropped on Hiroshima killed mostly civilians, in fact parts of Japan are still radioactive, so it would seem that a large amount of people who were killed in WWII (by both Axis and Allies) were people who ad nothing to do with the violence (of course isn't it always the innocent that get the worst of it?) As far as America joining sooner, it may have ended the fighting sooner, it may not have, however it would have started the count of Americans slaughtered and the number of people slughtered by Americans sooner, so as far as lives go (on both sides not just one) who can really say if lives could have been saved (maybe the lives of the people on Pearl Harbor, but don't German & Japanese lives count the same as American and English ones?) But anyway, as far as GOD view on it, I would have to say HE is against it due to Exodus 20:13 "Thou shalt not kill", also I personally believe war to be wrong because everyone has a family, so when you kill someone in Iraq whom to you is an "insurgent", to some one else it was "son", "husband", "Daddy", I feel it is wrong for you to be a soldier, because of the sixth commandment of GOD, and because basically to become a soldier is to agree to give up your individuality for so many years, train to become an effective killer, be shipped off to a foriegn country to bear the fruits of your training, then (if you live) come back home and be paid for you murders. (P.S. if you didn't want a "hippy" (also called life-friendly) view on war and soldiers you shouldn't have asked the question on a "hippy" website) GOD bless, Peace
WWII, and the War on Terror is completely different. WWII Involved two enemy heavily industrialized nations, while Terrorists don't even have their own country. In a sense this war is worse than WWII, we no longer can identify the enemy with a clear uniform because he knows that cannot fight toe to toe with us. So instead they put women and children in front of them fire an RPG at a tank, and run away. This war is a lot worse because they put women and children between them and us and even use them to attack us by strapping bombs to them. Instead of a human like Hitler, or Hirohito being their ideal, they have God as their ideal which makes them much more fanatic, suicidal, and dangerous. So no, I'm not comparing WWII and the War on Terror as if they are the same war, this war is a lot more dangerous and a lot more critical to our Nation's, and our world's security "Illegal" Occupation. Oh boy so a few bureaucratic globalizationists in the UN think it's illegal, fuck them! "Illegal" or not, it is the right thing to do, because if we pull out now the same thing will happen when we left Vietnam, everyone who had any ties with us would be executed out right meaning thousands of people who wanted to make their country better, instead of throwing their country back into the stone ages like these Religious Fanatics want to do, would be executed. So pretty much this is what you want us to do: We went in there (which was wrong to begin with, but now were deep in the shit) bombed the holy shit out of them killed who knows how many of their young men in "combat" (them running out in front of .50cal machine guns yelling "GOD IS GREAT" while shooting wildly in the air), and then we leave and say "whoops our mistake", leaving their country's infrastructure in complete shambles that would pretty much create a situation like that of after WWI where Germany was completely humiliated by defeat and totally destroyed, and what happened after that? Hitler happened. After we left, anyone involved with the US would be shot, tortured, heads lopped off on Al jezerra, etc, etc, they would immediately erupt into a Civil War with who knows how many different sides, ultimately one would come out victorious, and I guarantee their next goal after securing their own country will be to attack ours, not with military force, but terrorist acts against Europe and America funded by the new Government of Iraq, which will be ruled Islamic law, and crazy religious fanatics. And how exactly could Love and peace have solved WWII? Let's say it's 1939, what would you have done if you had been FDR? Take note that WWI has already happened, 100's of thousands of working class men from Germany have already died, the Allies make the Versailles Treaty which pretty much throws Germany into the stone ages and takes away every ounce of pride they ever had, how exactly could love and peace have solved that? Yet it saved the lives of over a Million of our boys like my Great Grandfather who was preparing to have to participate in the Battle for Japan. Oh yea, and who started that war? Who was it do you think that was going to be fighting the Battle for/of Japan? Japanese Army troops? NO! Women and Children who were being trained with crappy rifles, and spears made of bamboo. By dropping that bomb on those Civilians we saved the entire Japanese race from extinction. On Okinawa (Japanese soil) after the Americans had captured the Island literally thousands of Women jumped off the cliffs with babies in hand instead of surrendering to the Americans. Have no doubt, we saved their culture and race, not to mention a million of our boys, by dropping those two bombs. It would have ended the fighting sooner, no doubt. If we had declared war in 1939, helped Britain, and put our country's industrialization into full power like we did in 1941, Germany would have had no time to conquer all the land they had by 1941 not to mention how weak his military was in 1939 compared to 1941. The same goes with Japan . . . Neither one of these countries would have had the resources to do anything with their man power if we had declared war earlier. They would have been forced to capitulate because at this time they did not have the means to carry out a war against America. I had MANY relatives who fought on the German side, so yes I know that they are just as human. I also had Jews in my family, and you can just guess what happened to them. I would rather see German and Japanese dead than American because they wanted a war with us, and we gave it to them at the cost of 500,000 of our boys, those are the real innocent lives lost, men whose lives were interrupted to go fight a war they wanted nothing to do with. Don't know if you're directing this at me, but I'm not the one who started this thread, another poster did.

Yes, but by saying that you would rather see Japanese and Germans dead instead of Americans, you still make a differentiation between the life of one and the life of another. When my point was that killing is killing and death is death regardless of who the killed or killers are.
look dude, let me ask you something, did the recruiter say any of these -were gonna help you pay for school! -were gonna help you buy a house -your gonna skills/training -your gonna be set when you get autta here -your gonna get a great job! -oh your gonna study whatever u want, and did i mention we dont send students to war!!!!! -your gonna travel the world!! itll be so cool check out your equipment/weapons!!! DONT LISTEN TO THEM!!!!!!AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RUN!!!!!!!!! but you cant can you???? cuz i bet hes already calling your house isnt he??? askin you to come into the office so you can talk about your "goals" in life?? makin you feel like your gonna be less of a man if you dont do as he says. Didn't you know, God is an ETERNAL soldier. Although I wouldn't join the American armed forces under these current conditions. It's pretty ugly, and will only get uglier. Everything you've hear about fighting oversees is guarenteed to be a great understatement. Although it is a noble duty, one I'd surly be proud of.
Well, think about a couple of things...first was God's original commandment to not to kill...second is the golden rule that Jesus taught when he was on earth which was to LOVE you brother as yourself..you surely are not going to kill yourself so why would you put yourself in a position where you would have to kill others..it is not right and any church that supports any kind of war activities is WRONG period.. and this is coming from an ex Marine Corps and Army Infantryman.
