I just completed a day surgury on my hydrocele (essentially a cyst in the testicle) that was removed through an incision just below the abdomen.

because of the pain caused by this incision, as well as testicular swelling (hope this doesnt offend anyone), I was given a prescription of Tylenol-2 (15mg codeine).

However, due to the liver damage using this medication for a week or so may cause, i would like a more "natural" painkiller.

my question is: does anyone have experience regarding whether cannabis is more/less effective at relieveing post-operative pain? It is a relatively low discomfort when sitting/lying down, but any movement puts unsettling amounts of discomfort upon the region.

hopefully the answers given will help provide insight to others with similar concerns.

PS: because my weed stash is at another address, i want an essentially definite answer before i go into the trouble of obtaining it to my current location, where i am essemtially bed-ridden

PPS: this thread is also in the pharmacutical section of psychedelics, as i am unsure which forum group is better to answer this

To be honest, it depends on the weed. The thing is, some strains are better at pain killing than others.

Although I would still recommend getting the stash and trying it out.

don't be so clinical about it. either way you'll be more relaxed and occupied...so even if it doesn't definitely alleviate the pain, you'll still be stoned lol. plus, i happen to like mixing my weed with other medication...sometimes it makes it more effective. ;)

jesus christ dude, just reading your post made me want something to kill the pain. The thought of "surgery" combined with "testicle" really makes shivers run up my spine.

Glad to hear you had this taken care of. I've had a pilonidal many times but I have never had it operated on, due to my own stupidity, and, of course, no health insurance.

With 420, I think its the top of tops as far as legitimate medication goes. If it doesn't completely alleviate your discomfort, it may at least make it more tolerable.

With codeine, I would ask for 30mg, but you probably already have the 15s. Taking it just to treat your current pain won't harm your body too much. To do major damage, you would have to take a higher dose, and for a longer period of time. Still, it is good that you're using wise judgment in second guessing the side effects of codeine and the liver.

It is too bad that 420 has virtually no side effects, yet we're denied time and time again. In its place, we're given all these half-assed medications that barely work, but give you a mountains-worth of side effects. Such is the state of the world!

Best wishes for your recovery, may it be as speedy as possible.

(Just realized how old this post was. Oh well!)

I can't believe they only gave you T-2 for that kind of surgery... how weak! The tylenol isn't going to cause any liver damage, even if you take a little more than what's prescribed. Actually, herb is a great potentiater of codeine and opiates, so I'd say use only as much of the prescription you're comfortable with and take the weed with it. Ouch, I hope you recover smoothly!

haha.. i just saw this.. wtf! T2's???? my god.. you might as well just've flushed that shit down the toilet and bout some Advil or Ibuprfen.. that is incredibly weak.. surgeries here at least result in a minimum of Vicodin

you could do a CWE with the t2s and separate the codeine from the acetominophen. I did it with some t3's a few months back and it got me pretty buzzed. I don't know how much weaker t2s are than t3's though.

I've had mouth and abdomen surgeries... both time I decided to smoke within a week and it may alleviate the pain, but the high makes me that much more aware of the wounds and of the whole experience of undergoing surgery....just a heads up to whom it may concern.

Tramadol's are muscle relaxors, but ive found in experience they work well as pain killers, i used to take them for headaches and an hour later it'd be gone and i'd be high :D

Medical Marijuana has helped me out a lot. I end up taking less pain killers.
