Have you tried yoga toes/Genki Kun toe stretchers?

You can get them from ebay. I have been wearing them when I sleep and have seen a noticable difference - my toes are more splayed and comfortable.

Has anyone else tried these for long periods of time? What was the result?

You don't wear them all the time, just like when you are sleeping/ sitting at the computer/ doing the ironing etc... They are supposed to help spread out the bones in your feet/toes that have become artificially cramped if you have worn shoes for much of your life. Going barefoot does that as well but I think these really help.

and besides that its such a simple object. there's no need to buy one - make your own instead. custom for your feet if you just cant live without one. use the material you like the most. wood. clay. cork. or carve a large piece of hard rubber. poke 4 cork plugs just between your toes while relaxing on the sofa, or use your goddam fingers.. insisting, it's one of the silliest things ever, definitely not worth a dime. it's amazing how many stupid things they sell around. oh, another thing. most people doesnt like commercials.

Years ago I used to place a rubber object between my big toe and second toe and it felt pretty good to separate them like that. However, I noticed that after a while I started getting these weird lacerations in the skin between the big toe and second toe sometimes after walking barefoot on splinters and coarse gravel. My conclusion was that it was better to let the toes realign naturally by just going barefoot all the time rather than try to force them apart.

But even after having gone through that experience, heck, i'd still buy one of these just to try it out. They can't be that expensive and it would save me a lot of time to buy one than to make one.
