Is there anyway to tell if the dried mushrooms I got are real psychedelic mushrooms or fake? Only reason I ask is because I'm sorta afraid that I have poisonous mushrooms and not psychedelics, since I bought from a guy who I have never bought from before and doesn't look like the most trustworthy guy and gave me a 1/8th for 15 bucks. I'm probably over-reacting but I don't want to end up in the hospital or dead.
Well, no way to tell for sure once dried, especially, without a pic. Anyway, google image search dried mushrooms; they should look like those. Also, if they're wild collected, I'd be more cautious, because there are some toxicc look alikes. You highest chance of getting toxic mushies is from a mistaken ID of a wild mush, not a shady dealer. Chances are that you got shrooms. If thats not the case, chances are you got dried edible mushrooms from the store.
One way to check is to look at the base of the stem. If you see any gold flakes, it's vermiculite, which means they were home grown and safe. If you don't see gold flakes, don't automatically rule them out, though. It just means that they may have been picked, or they may have pulled all the vermiculite from them.
One way is to see if there is any blue on them. Magic mushrooms turn blue when bruised because of the Psilocybin in them. Almost every 8th of shrooms I have ever gotten had some bruised on at least some of the stems. Also like the other people said, check for vermiculite.
Mushrooms won't bruise after they're dried. Also, not all psilocybin mushrooms bruise blue. Panaeolus Subbalteatus, the most common psilocybin in the US (and possibly the world) rarely bruises blue. And again, some poisonous mushrooms bruise blue. It doesn't apply in the OPs situation, but when picking mushrooms, all that blue bruising means is that it's worth closer examination.
Must not be common around here, as I have never seen them around. That is just the way I see to tell, and so far it has worked for me, but I normally buy them and not pick them. If anyone is picking shrooms they should be much more careful.
