just watched the robert de niro film the deer hunter on youtube and it got me thinking basically your in a pit held by the viet cong and gradually their bringing people out of the pit to play russian roulette and you cant normally escape and your only chance is fighting your way out . but to do that you reason you would need to play your best friend whose also in the pit and increase the number of bullets in the gun , and fire at least once each to increase the chances of there being a round in the chamber when you shoot the first guard . would you be able to fire a gun at your head with a 50/50 chance it will kill you and which of your friends would you like in the pit with you , who would react in the best way who could shoot people or fire a possibly lethal weapon at his or her head if they needed to . could you pick before hand the sort of people that would be best in this situation from people you know http://nz.youtube.com/watch?v=tkv2Q9eXhds&feature=related http://nz.youtube.com/watch?v=9YCbNhub50Y&feature=related there is a mistake in probility in the film in thats chances of a live round are not actually changed by using up blanks so the probility is still 50/50 but imagine that that isnt the case
I heard about a guy once who tried playing Russian Roulette, but used a normal handgun instead of a revolver. Those things self-load the bullets, so he shot himself on the first go. I'd see whether anyone would fall for this, maybe even faking ignorance to get them to give me one of these for their own amusement (a Glock, for example...I think) Otherwise, I'd pretend to aim for my head but pull the gun on a guard and fire as fast as possible. Remember, if there is a bullet in the first chamber, you're just lowering your friend's chances of getting out. I'm sure in the state of adrenaline I'd be able to pull the trigger at least a couple of times, to increase the chances of a bullet being fired at a guard. When you mention the blanks. Johnny...I've not seen the film, but isn't there still danger of harming yourself with a blank? It doesn't fire a live round, but I'm sure I've heard it can sometimes fire shrapnel from the blank out at a similar speed.
He won a Darwin Award for ensuring the long-term survival of the human race by removing himself from the gene pool in a sublimely idiotic fashion....
That might be where I heard it from. ---------------- Now playing: Richard Thompson - Two-Faced Love via FoxyTunes
brandon lee bruce lees son killed himself with a blank firing gun by holding it against his head and then firing it . there are all sorts of tricks you could pull in the deer hunter situation and as I pointed out its not totally logical because we think that firing on blank chambers increase the possibility of getting a live round but it doesnt in a gun with three bullets and six chambers the odds are always the same 50/50 but what Im interested in is would you be able to take a 50/50 risk of killing yourself if you thought it was your best chance to break out , and which of your present friends would you want in that situation with you which do you think would also take that risk and which would react well to the stress and have fast enough reactions
But with every pull of the trigger you eliminate one barrel. The first would be 50/50, since there are six barrels and three bullets...for the second there'd be five barrels and three bullets, then four, then three...effectively a 100% chance of shooting yourself, unless you're playing a variation where the barrel is spun after each shot. This would mean you'd still not know which bullet chamber was loaded, so you'd lose your advantage.
Ok so let me try and get this...some fools are trying to force you to put a gun toy our head and then shoot to see if you die? If you had a gun, couldnt you just shoot the people making you do it? If no-ones making you, then why would you? Or have a got the wrong end I just cant get it Maybe you have to have seen the film
The problem is, you're being forced to play Russian Roulette (as you say, point a gun at your head and pull the trigger, taking turns with one other person) by a group of people. The question assumed you've already managed to add two bullets, which means there are three bullets now in the gun. The problem is, in a worst case scenario, you have three empty chambers to fire through before you get to a bullet - one of the guards would shoot you before you could fire on them. It's made more complicated by the fact that there would be multiple guards in different locations, so every bullet would have to count; even if you have a fast trigger finger, you can't point at one guard and pull the trigger six times, as two more guards would shoot you. Eliminating the barrels by playing along for two or three turns minimises the chance of hitting an empty, but also puts your own life at risk, of course. The question is, would one person taking one "for the team" as it were be justifiable? Of course, assuming there are three guards for three bullets, the question is fundamentally flawed; if one player ends up shooting themselves, one bullet has been lost, so at least one guard will still be active (assuming the other player grabs the gun and makes an attempt at escape). You'd need to load one more bullet than there are guards in the room for the plan to work.
