In the early days of his presidency, I used to wonder why Bush didn't ask anyone on his team to give him a little coaching. After all, public speaking is a vital skill for someone holding his position and there were surely people who could have given him some guidance. However, as time went on, it soon became apparent he doesn't give a monkey's about how he comes across. He's too stupid to realize that any thinking American is embarrassed by his inepitude on the public stage. Personally, I think the lowest moment in his presidency was when he (finally) came out of hiding following 9/11. America was looking for a leader and all we had was this stammering, stumbling buffoon, flubbing his lines, and smirking for the cameras. The man is a disgrace to his office.
I have an acquaintance in Texas who voted for him both times because she was impressed by his performance as governor. When even she could no longer defend his behavior, she finally turned on him, but not without reminding everyone that "He was a different man when he was running Texas." Now I don't know all that much about how good a governor he was, but video footage of him in those days certainly suggests that his speech was much more coherent back then. It's possible he's simply got more stupid as time has gone on, but I'm inclined to agree that his previous (or possibly current) substance abuse has had an adverse effect on the man's brain. When we look back at Reagan's later appearances, it's a wonder so few people picked up on the fact that he was obviously away with the birdies. I suspect history will show that Bush too, had diminished mental capacity while he was in office.
It's been said that Three Stooges fans like them because they can look at them and say, "At least I'm not that stupid." .
He was a terrible governor who in his tenure bankrupted Texas schools. Now they're simply in the state where they pass children in order to receive state funding. He did seem more eloquent back in the day. His policies were never better.
And I've changed my mind. I haven't really forgiven Obama for Nargis or FISA. I want Kusinich or someone else committed to their ideals.
You know, Dan Quayle is on tv, discussing the party line. And when compared to how Bush articulates the policy, Quayle sounds remarkably well educated and concise.
My favorite one is when the reporter asks him if he knew about the 9/11 attacks before it happened and all he said was "Theres a time for politics............. Theres a time for politics" Oh yeah and how he said he saw the first plane strike the first tower on a TV outside the classroom he was about to go read a book too.. The footage of that didnt come out until the next day, with only one source that had it on film, happening during a documentary on the New York fire fighters. http://youtube.com/watch?v=p3SemYQH-8o&feature=related This is hilarious, theres a "making of" video of it too... Go fuck yourself Dick Cheney! LOL
