Page and Hendrix arn't that technical. I mean, I love them, they play from their heart and soul, but I love them more because of their groove and riffs than because of their technique. Same for Tony Iommi.

Usually technical musicians will go more into metal, fusion and jazz.

Well, playing from the soul can sort of be called "technique", that's how they play.

Honestly I think that Hendrix had the worst technique ever. He tried to cover up his playing with excessive use of distortion and wah that anyone playing would sound good..I'd have to say page because of how clean and precise he is...not saying I don't like Hendrix music but he was just too sloppy

I suppose I should also throw in Michael Bruce and Glenn Buxton, but then I'm just saying what formed my guitar style. Might as well give a nod to George Harrison....

If you listen to the posthumous album, "First Rays of the New Rising Sun", although he only completed three of the songs, you'll find amazing, and beautiful, guitar-work. "Drifting" and "Hey, Baby (Land of the New Rising Sun)" are the first that I'd listen to.

Jimi Hendrix is amazing. His style is just awesome and he is very skilled. He is also one of the few guitarist who can make a song of just pure guitar playing and make it sound so good. It's hard to explain, but most guitarist who make instrumental songs do it to show their skill, but it just doesn't have a good melody or anything, while Jimi's is just amazing and I can listen to his bold as love instrumental millions of times in a row.

Jerry Garcia isn't the most skilled guitarist, but his style is amazing, and his improvising is the best in the world. The way he can connect with other band members and the song they are playing is awesome.

I also have a lot of respect for John Butler. Ocean by him is a great guitar song.

Keller Williams is probably the most unique acoustic guitarist I have heard as of late. The electric solo guitar player comes a dime a dozen but, Brian May has always held true to his style.

    THREE WORDS......

    Steve Fuckin' Sweney

If you love guitar and you have never heard Sweney, you need to check him out. He is the lead guitarist of a jamband called ekoostik hookah. They are not your typical jammywhammy jamband, they don't noodle endlessly and fuck around. They rock. Sweney's style is more like Duane Allman and Eric Clapton mixed with a little Steve Howe, Lightning Hopkins, and a greasy bottleneck slide. www.ekoostik.com

honestly I think you have no idea what you are talking about...hendrix was a technical genius....

on that note, some others that have not been mentioned that I admire:

    Jorma Kaukonen
    Django Rheinhardt
Ritchie Havens (yes, hes a simple player but I love his sound)
    Jeff Beck (cmon yall!!)
Jimmy Page (some could argue he was a sloppy player but I love him)
    Dick Dale
    Chris Thomas King
