Yeah, I agree. I've experienced being smacked around that definitely crossed the line by my parents - although it appeared as discipline to witnesses. It was more about punishing me than actually teaching me anything. It was all about hurting me, coming down on me rather than actually taking care of my behaviour problems.

Thing is, children also have a tendency to feel pretty helpless as it is and when you have a parent that is physically hurting the child with intent, it makes the child feel more helpless and out of control.

 

It also doesn't help with the whole teen rebellion thing either.

 

i don't know...i laugh at some of the whippings i got growing up

the weight lifting belt - thats just hilarious to me right now

the whooping my best friends mom gave my friend and i when we got caught drinking the first time - man haha

and the time my friends and i tried burning down this garage...got brought home by the cops...this was pretty damn bad, but was worth it

those are the 3 that really stick out and are funny to me now

yea, i pretty much lived at their house in the summers...

we were 14, and we got a hold of a huge bottle of Jack Daniels, i took it from my parents. went out, drank it between 5 of us. 5 minutes before curfew we got this bright idea to call my friends parents to see if we could stay over the house we were at...his mom knew we were drunk just by how we talked and told us we had to get back home. we ran back somehow getting there by curfew. his parents get in a little later when were sleeping (we thought we were smooth and fooled his mom and that we could just sleep it off --- oooooooh nooo)...they came in screaming, got smacked a buncha times haha
was told to go back to bed

dad comes to pick me up the next day...we both get smacked a few more times...and i was grounded at both houses for 1 week haha

Well like I said. I was never once hit as discipline. I was hardly ever disciplined. So separating it out in my own mind seems strange.

I don't think theres anything wrong with responsible parents spanking. I'm just never going to find it appetizing.

I think before the afe of reason a few thwaps on the butt so they can snap out of it. Once their a bit older, they'll be able to figure it out in other ways which I'll use.

Like grounding the hell out of them. And lectures so long they'll pray for the sweet embrace of spanking. :biggrin:

I agree with this. That's kind of how it was for me. I HATED my mom's lectures. Sigh. I still do. Sometimes I wish she'd hit me nowadays just so I can pop her one back. I've been wanting to do that for a long time now. lol

Yeah I got spanked. Mostly by my mom. I remember when I was less than six years old, my sister and I did something, it wasn't worth getting spanked for. My dad spanked her and I got my mom! Life aint fair... and damn she did it hard
