I have been around, seen, communicated with, and hunted for, spirits/ghosts/entities (whatever you want to call them) for my whole life. I've always had the ability to sense what a spirit is feeling, what it looks like, and sometimes even communicate with it. This ability I inherited is undoubtedly from my mother, who has had many spiritual encounters throughout her life. She always encouraged me, telling me these things existed and they couldn't hurt me. If I told her I saw one, instead of telling me it was in my "imagination," she would ask about it, and was very interested in what I had to say about it. She kept a journal, and in it she closely details some of my younger experiences.

When I was a child, We lived near an old Indian burial, ground. I was in constant contact with small children spirits, and my mother even saw an Indian spirit hunting in the woods. She told me that when I was around 4, I walked in the kitchen and told her a small kid I was playing with had hit me. She knew I was alone in the room and assumed it was a spirit. She asked "Well, what did you do?" and I replied "I hit him back and he ran away."

The next house we lived in was much larger and on a rather large hill. We actually built it from the ground up, and the first night we ever stayed there, I had an experience. I was 5, and the inside wasn't finished yet, so we all slept in sleeping bags in the living room. I was awoken by the sound of a large group of people talking and laughing in the other room. I stood up and entered the room where the sound was coming from, and the talking stopped. I stood still for a moment, perplexed, until I heard footsteps upstairs. I didn't hesitate to run like hell back to my sleeping bag and zip it shut.

Once we had settled in, small occurrences began to happen. Dishes would rattle in the cabinets, doors would shut, TVs would turn on. My sister's dolls would occasionally fall off the shelves or fly across her bedroom during the night. My mother and father were awoken repeatedly by the grandfather clocks' songs, not because it was too loud, but because it would play different, unknown melodies and sometimes backwards. I never heard the clock because I had a room upstairs with my sister, while my parents and very younger brother slept in the master bedroom downstairs.

One night when I was put to bed, probably no later than 8, the room was completely dark except for the moonlight peering in through the window. I had one of those 5 foot tall play workshops, made out of plastic with different stations to play with. Shortly after I had fallen asleep, I awoke to the sound of something moving behind this little workbench. I turned and looked to see the black figure of a small, four foot child peering around the side. I yelled as loud as I could, and the entity disappeared behind the workbench. My father ran into the room and flipped the lights on. I slept in my parents room that night.

My mother was the only other one to see this entity in the house. We eventually moved a few blocks down the street to a smaller, much more haunted house...

    Shall I continue?

Fascinating. I'd like to know what your feeling of 'spirits' is. Who are they? Are they in your world or you in theirs. Your time or their time ... or neither? A parallel existence? A doorway between different times? Have they died but not let go or are they living happily in their world (and in your house!)? :)

I only know personally of myself being two ways ... my 'self' or earthly personality ... Me, in form, or myself 'as spirit' and in spirit in the sense of multidemensional conciousness. ... so i'm always curious as to what a ghost or individuated spirit is? Do i have one? Is it like a spiritual or astral counterpart to who i think i am in the physical world. Some kind of astral form beyond my physical?

I believe that there are spirits that experienced such powerful emotions in their life that they imprint upon our world. But these spirits, the ones that constantly act out their death or walk aimlessly through halls, always seem to be from the early 1900s or before. Perhaps a certain time must pass before spirits are capable of vibrating at a frequency low enough to communicate with us.

And then there are spirits that have become conscience of themselves and are here for a purpose. I met one of these spirits in my first Ouiji board sessions. A spirit named Tom, who died in 1929, warned me of something coming in 2012. And this was after years of being constantly annoyed by this same spirit opening doors, rattling dishes and what not. Turns out he was trying to tell me something.

So I think sometimes its the case of a spirit being stuck in a memory until someone can snap them out of it. Then sometimes it is merely an imprint on our world, repeating over and over again. Then sometimes it is a conscience spirit trying to get the attention of us humans.

How is it that we become more 'dumb' after we die?

I mean...if your alive one minute, die, and then become a 'spirit'...how would you not know you were dead? deceased?

I mean when one becomes a spirit, does their IQ drop by 3/4??

If I can think and make sense of things now...than why wouldn't I, or anyone else, be able to think and make sense of things in the spirit realm?

I mean I don't aimlessly roam around closets and basements now..why would I do so after death?

Something seems suspicious about that to me...

And also...without my clothes, and body, how would anyone recogognize me? or the deceased?

Why would they be wearing clothes?
If a spirit, without a body, is a collection or particals, why would those particals have a shape?

It's as if we see what we want to see and project from our own minds, or someone or something knows what we expect to see and replicates it for manipulation purposes...

    I don't know...just wondering...

You do have valid points...however, I've read (and have) this book called Life After Life by Ramond A. Moody. It is a study of people that technically died for varying periods of time, and came "back". What they technically saw and/or did was (to me, anyway) quite interesting, and in some cases, not at all what the person would have expected. Meaning that if one begins to "see" something because of a subconscious thought or even long-held beliefs, you would say - ah, that's why they saw that, right?

Well, these people were often quite surprised at not being in their bodies, and able to look down and see themselves. It varied as to if they saw others (often they did) and what they did....however they all medically, technically died and came back. Usually there was a feeling of great gratitude at having life. Overall, I found it a quite interesting read and would definitely recommend it. Not religious at all (tho' somehow I found it to be, in my own way) and well written, researched, etc.

My father and his first wife were staying at Foulis Castle in Dingwall, Scotland, seat of the Chief of Clan Munro. All night they were bothered by a large black dog that kept jumping on the bed. Next day, when asked by the Lady of the Manor how he'd slept, my father replied, "All right, except for that dog..." only to be told the dog had been dead for 300 years.
