The animal collective is great. A not-too-well-known indie band out of Ney York, i fell in love quickly and wanted to know if anyone else has heard of them. If you havent check out The Purple Bottle, Whaddit i done, and Fickle Cycle and tell me what you think. If you like, tell me what else you like.

its just animal collective. There's no "the". Also, they are pretty well known to all the "psuedo" hipsters or w/e you wanna call the coffeeshop goers. One of the most popular bands to be an indie/non-pop group.

They are amazing though. One of the best bands of the recent age. The entire album sung tongs is amazing and I think everyone should listen to it. You may appreciate it more if you play music, but even without that background you should still enjoy it immensely.

Animal Collective is one of my favorite bands. I tend to get a headache though if I listen to 5 or more songs in a row. Not really a bad thing though, I love noise.

"chores" is one of the greatest things ever.
    and "unsolved mysteries".
    and "fireworks"...
    "#1"...
uh... yeah i'm really likin' it :)

Animal Collective is so easy to get lost in. I love their music. Even if they are starting to get popular.

Okay I really like Cuckoo Cuckoo on Strawberry Jam, but I don't know about the rest. I've been into AC for many years and I like Sung Tongs and Campfire Songs the most. They lost me a bit with Feels, and I think they lost me even more now with Strawberry Jam ... I think they lose many of their older listeners as their albums get more accesible for each album, but at the same time they probably get more newer listeners, and that way they're getting more popular.

Same with Panda Bear (part of Animal Collective). His album Young Prayer is probably the best album I've ever heard! But his newer material don't attract me.

Avey Tare's (another part of Animal Collective) newer work with Kría Brekkan on the other hand is awesome. To bad though they decided to flip their whole album backwards for some reason. It's much much better played forwards - forwards it is the most beautiful thing!!

I'll keep listening to AC though, but it will be the old stuff...

Cool, A friend introduced me to and them and I wasn't all that impressed..

But since you guys are all saying good things I'm gonna give them another listen. It normally takes a while for me to get into the extremely "off the beaten path" bands.

no_weight, i can see where you're coming from.

in my opinion, the best record they have ever made is sung tongs, which is easily one of the most imaginative pieces of music i have ever heard. feels was good, and so was strawberry jam, but each progressive album seems to be more and more accessible. in the long run, i don't consider this a bad thing. i actually think it adds a whole new interesting dimension when you've got a really uncompromising band like animal collective writing pop songs. No matter what, it will have their own unique stamp, and more people will hear them and will then be exposed to their older, more "experimental" material.

    PS
have you heard "spirit they're gone, spirit they've vanished"? originally released under the name "Avey Tare and Panda Bear" but re-released under the Animal Collective moniker. Easily ranks as one of the best Animal Collective records, in my opinion

I agree Sung Tongs is where it's at... I also like some of their poppier songs like 'Peacebone'. But they lose me in those long, drawn out songs where nothing really changes or happens, except maybe some screaming.
