Do any of you guys wash your hair with anything other than shampoo? I want some natural alternatives.
*~yup ~ beer! like it or not its great for your hair. you can just rinse your hair with some wonderful natural concouctions like grapefruit juice (for oily) and chamomile teas(to make it oh so soft). of course there's always a henna wash too ~ lovely! there are lots and lots of ways to keep your hair healthy shiny and soft without commercial shampoos. its not even GOOD for your hair to wash it on a daily basis! some of the best *natural* high end shampoos you CAN buy though are aveda products which use traditional aurvedic principals and real plant and flower essences. do some research and find what you can that will be best for you ~ there's a bunch of information just waiting*~
Smoke Signals is my fucking favorite movie ever! I love you! I use Burt's Bees Baby Shampoo... it's like a bar. It kind of dries my hair out, though. I've also used Dr. Bronner's, but it kinda does the same thing. I've mostly been using Aveda, lately, but it's a little pricey for my style, so I have to ration it out.
Do you have long hair (happyhahagirl)? I tried the Burts Bees bar shampoo stuff and it seemed to take forever.
It's a little past my shoulders.... I just lather it up in my hands and mostly do the roots. I don't bother with the ends, since they're usually kinda dry, anyway. Kinda like how you just condition the tips... I just shampoo the roots....
there is this shampoo called MOP... (it stands for Modern Organic Products) I haven't checked if they are fully organic, or what. But, I've used their shampoo, and conditioner a bunch of times. It works great, and smells awesome. The one bad part is that it is alittle pricey.
Aubrey organics is a good shampoo ...no chemicals in there that I know of..all rosehips n herbs n junk..it's about $8+ a bottle tho. Maybe burts bees has something for grown ups? I bet there's a recipe for decent shampoo out there somewhere.....
I have the facial scrub and I love it. My grandmother got it for me for free somewhere and I can't find it anywhere. Anyone know where to buy it or if they have a website?
I use knotty boy dread shampoo, (my hair is dreaded) and it<s all organic, and works great! (there's even hemp in it to strenghthen your hair, you can use it with or without dreads.
i use cider vinegar 2 or 3 times a week to clean my dreads. it gets them nice and clean, conditions them, and helps them lock up. i add a drop or 2 of essential oil to fragrance and condition my dreads. cider vinegar gets your hair really clean. many people prefer natural soaps like bronner's. over all, these are far superior for the health of your hair than chemical shampoos. however, if you have hard water, the minerals in the water will chemically react and form a disgusting residue. this is where soap scum bathtub rings come from. usuing spring or well water won't necessarily prevent the problem. most of the well water in the town i grew up in came from natural mineral springs, making the well water actually "harder" than the village water, which came from a lake. wiccan witch, the problem many people have with chemical shampoos is the residues they leave behind in hair, which usually isn't a problem with natural soaps, unless you've got hard water. i can't use most shampoos anyway, because they contain sodium laurel or laureth sulphate, which is a nasty chemical used as a foaming agent than is highly toxic, and that many people, like myself, are highly sensitive or allergic to. hope i was helpful.
I think that you can order the MOP products online, or some salons sell it. I haven't seen it in like.... regular stores though. I got mine at a salon.
Dr Bronners makes my hair look 10 times MORE disgusting than before I used it. Dunno if it was the water or not, but I give up on that stuff.
I like Grandpa's Old Fashioned soaps. Patchouli and Orange creme are yummy! I use em for my dreads and they work well.
i use patchouly and orange essential oil, with a little lavender to fragrance my dreads after they're cleaned. i add a few drops of the blend to my hands before palm-rolling. keeps the nasties away and smells so much better than tea tree.
