Has anyone ever noticed that opiates are the most looked down drug in society? The only other substance people hate more is meth. I swear i don't even tell people i take opiates anymore cuz they look at me like im a street junkie. People also have a perception of opiates that they make you intoxicated like with alcohol or xanax, which everyone knows is the furthest thing from the truth. I just find it funny how people who drink endless amounts and smoke pot and take e pills or even snort beeks can judge your drug of choice. But, i guess everyone has a different desire for pleasure.
very true. I told my dawg i tried oxy and he freaked out cuz its practically synthetic heroin. But its not as bad or intense in my opinion, oxy was smooth, soft, and fun. I guess I didnt take a high enough dosage..
I've never gotten people upset when I say that I took pills like vicodin or oxy. Most likely because those are just pharmaceuticals, and Americans tend to believe something that is given to you by a doctor can't be the worst thing in the world. But if you mention morphine, or particular methods of administration, people will go apeshit.
Who the hell cares you will always meet people who want to look down on you for one reason or another. The main reason is all the bad news coverage opiates have gotten in the last few years becasue of OC's and the come back of Herion now that people can sniff it and smoke it. As for other people who do drugs putting down other drug users down What I really love is people who only sniff dope and try to put down others and preach to them for shooting it up.with coke you can sniff it all you want and piles as big as scare face but God Forbid you smoke it ounce you are some crack Head. That being said when I hook up with new people or a girl and get some coke to party with I won't go pulling out my spike and blast off in front of them or pull out my glass pipe and the baking soda and cook some up to smoke. I hardly ever tell people I like to shoot up my drugs or have smoked crack.people just look at you different even though they should not. I have even heard people putting down othrs for eating LSD or smoking PCP when them themselfs eat shrooms. You hear the whole its not natural line. Its all fucked up and people will always try to make themselfs look better and hihger up then you its human nature.
I thinks its because most people are hypocrites by nature, its all about status in todays society, and it dosnt matter what it is,how much money you make, what car you drive, what church you go to or dont go to,its always something! If you dont conform to what they are doing then you must be wrong. Its just easier to look down on someone than it is to try and understand them.Altough I dont feel the need to defend myself to anyone about my opiate use,I do try and educate the people who truly show concern about why I take opiates, its because I am in 24 hour fucking pain!! and if the rest of them feel the need to look down on me because I seek relief for it then fuck em! I know they have their own issues and I could really care less, I have enough to deal with just being me! but what I do think is funny is,If you were to check out the medicine cabinets of all these self absorbed ass wipes,I am sure you would find lots and lots of opiates, and several other things they wouldnt want you to know they take.It dosnt matter If you take them to get high or take them for pain, some one is gonna look down on you for it!
To begin with medicinal and recreational uses for any drug are completely different. I have friends with serious opiate problems and my problem with them is the fact that they let the drug run their lives. Recreational use of almost any drug I will support, until someone is simply passing time or waiting 'til their next "fix". Basically, it depends on the person; I have friends on both ends of the spectrum, the ones who responsibly recreationally use opiates and then the (to use your words) street junkies.
I agree wholeheartedly! I mean it is a personal choice, i for one feel more myself on opiates and for days after using i feel more positive about life. I dont judge people over alcohol use etc again the drugs act is something which was not reviewed properly at the time had certain racist elements and some of which was completely non factual, but hey thats life!I wonder if the life of a junkie would be made a little easier if things were just accepted and the stigma of the desparate, drooling junkie were to lift?I mean maybe some people are just naturally drawn to opiates, i mean i smoke and have done for years but i have never been judged for it and i have never been able to quit as i could not handle it/get through it mentally!Does anyone else feel the same?
Totally. If you start talking about doing lines of OC, or for me, even just OC at all people go apeshit. And if morphine/H/injection comes into the picture, well...better just not to talk about that. But I totally agree that many americans feel that if you can get something prescribed by a doctor then it can't be all that bad for you. still, I really do hate the social stigma that has been built up over time about opiates.. it makes it that much tougher to talk to people about my drug of choice. -V
And this thread is similar to the infamous argument between me and nirma about why people go crazy over H but not over OC, started by I think Rollontheground. Its somewhere in the forum, I might just bump it up now that I think about it. On the otherhand, we got to almost 100 posts i think, might as well start a new one.
i noticed that too and im guilty too of it too before i actually started reading about them i assumed the same things that they were nasty street drugs that opinion was quickly changed with one trip to erowid lol
^LOL "one trip to erowid", yep. that changed my perception about many drugs. I would of never been willing to try ketamine for example, but reading up on it changed all that. I'd buy some K in a heartbeat, just to try it out.
thank god for erowid =D without it, i would never try mushrooms, pcp, acid, anything 2C, or oxy and i wouldnt try any drug without reading about it on erowid first hmmm ketamine sounds interesting *goes to erowid*
well I tried shrooms and acid before I found erowid, but I had no problem with those cuz so many people I know already tried them. But for oxy, I wanted to read up on dosages 2 make sure I didnt end up in a back of an ambulance. never even seen pcp.. and methodman makes it sound good, so does biggie..
hahaha i was going to do ALOT of oxy before i read the doses alot of my friends do acid and mushrooms, but everyone describes it differently, so i decided to read a bunch of reports, and get a general idea pcp is pretty fun, i never wanted to try it, because of all the horror stories you hear but then again, you never hear about the good drug experiences in the newspapers
I personally think that what separates responsible drug use from the type of use that gives us recreational (or even heavily addicted but still functional) users a bad reputation is INFORMATION. As Whatsupchuck has pointed out, many people think that they need to do A WHOLE SHIT TON of OC or Hydro, don't understand the routes of administration, etc. All of these things are incredibly dangerous. My policy for drug use is to know as much as I can possibly know about any drug I try, and to know even more about anything I use on a regular basis. If more kids would just get on Erowid and look up dosages for opiates before using for the first time we could avoid all the really sad stories about 15 year olds chewing up 160+ mg of OC their first time and ODing. Erowid and other online drug forums are some of the most important public services I can think of - people are always going to choose to do drugs, and at least having proper information can prevent the serious misuse and mistakes that cause harm both to individuals and to society as a whole. -V
Hi, I haven't posted on here for a while, but I logged in and spotted this thread in a little list of threads. Opiates are accepted in our society. Opiates are the "death drug" - in the sense that when someone is nearing the end of their life due to a terminal illness etc - morphine is given to help them on their way and ease the pain. And that is accepted and expected. This of course links in with peoples perceptions, that if your doctor writes you a script for a drug, it must be a "good" drug. (of course this isn't always the case) anything you buy from the street - not just opiates, but any "street drug" is "bad". After the Second World War - many injured Soliders were taking opiates for the rest of their lives - as by the time they recovered from their wounds - they were addicted. Many did not require it as pain relief, but the Doc continued to supply it - and while attempts were made to reduce the dose over time - many were on them for the rest of their lives. And yet they held down jobs, raised families, and had productive lives. The drug itself, given in control, safe doses had no ill effects. Medical grade opiates are in fact one of the safer drugs known to man. The gap between a theraoutic and a fatal dose is far wider than it is, for example, with paracetamol. Black market herion becomes poisonous and dangerous because it is cut with all kinds of shit. Black market users overdose, because they do not know the purity of the opiate they are using. Black market addicts are thin, because they spend all their money on the drug. not because the drug makes you thin. "street" users commit crime, not because they are immoral, but because they have no other way to gain access to the drug. In the U.K - before we started the war on drugs, Doctors could prescribe medical grade opiates to addicts. The number of addicts numbered in the hundreds, and there were few deaths from opiate use. Their wasn't the crime that goes along with people needing to steal to get their next hit and all the other social problems that prohibition created. When it made opiates illegal - society created the "street junkie" Everything society does to fight the war on drugs, in an effort to stop the crime, and the prostitution, and the disease - actually increases the problem. For instance - if customs seize a massive shipment of heroin as it enters the country, it drives up prices as demand outstrips supply. This means that more crime is commited in order for street users to fund their habit. It is estimated that for every £1 spent in the U.K fighting the war on drugs - it creates £4 worth of related crime. It is because of the above that when you mention you do opiates to your friends, they take the view that it is "bad" - when really the negative effects are created not by the drug itself, but rather by the misguided laws and propaganda of our society.
^^ very true, and i t hink that if H were legalized, but regulated (as alcohol and tobacco are) OVER TIME (not instantly, instantly there would be TONS of problems) the problems with it would slowly disappear, especially the dangers of using it, as it would be safer, with less cuts and such .
People will always try to have an edge on you unless they're really your friends. Like I've told some people I've done Heroin and some are like "you're crazy" but the real ones understand that I was doing pharms and that it really is the same thing. I mentioned to them the price of it though and they understood completely. Yea, they still thought I was crazy, but they didn't really thing very differently of me. And fuck it, I don't really care what people that I don't care about think. Its also about the cleanlyness of the drug, like pills vs. powder and purity issues and I agree, I would much rather know what exactly is up my nostrils, but sometimes thats just not possible and if I'm interested in something enough, I'll do it regardless.
