Hey, I was scrolling through threads and wondered if we have enough interest in natural long hair care to create a sub forum or group. Or, I could consider reupping and getting a personal forum on the topic.

I looked at body care but its intent is more of a make your own goop focus.

I'm suggesting tips, care, feeding, issues such as strangers messing with it, people attitudes (as in people you care about not jerks on the street) getting over the not long enough phase, goal lengths and progress and such.

Do we have enough dedicated, self identified longhairs for this?

    Male and female. Supportive.

I'd probably peruse it although I look at it more as identity than a fashion statement.

Please, I need a break from here sometime. If we had a long hair forum I wouldn't need to visit LHC anymore and I would never leave this place.

Actually, if perhaps the "Body Care" forum (which has only had 80ish threads in its entire existence) was changed to "Hair & Body Care", I think that would work. But I don't know if a solely hair forum, much less a solely LONG hair forum, would be in high enough demand.

that's exactly why I thought it'd be a good area. You see all the fashionista wannabe sorts of posts, but they don't get the commitment (just like fashionista dreaddies) and I was also envisioning a more natural care (not crap in a bottle with dimethicone and SLS) emphasis.
I am on a long hair list, but there is a strong fundie Xtian sub group there that can dominate. And they see hippie as a bad term.

Aha well- perhaps I could participate. There are some issue a few guys who grow their hair have to deal with as well... it could function partly as a support and encouragement forum for everyone.

Drumminmama, I would LOVE it!!! I'm very interested in natural hair care (I've started using shampoo bars and vinegar rinses on my hair) and trying to simplify in this area, as in every area of my life, and, at the same time, do what is the absolute healthiest for my hair and body.

Please say you will...please?? :) :hurray:

OK, I'm not trying to nag too much, but this is a huge interest of mine...

Maybe I'm silly... I just wash with Bronners and let it go. What sort of stuff would be discussed... is there a link to the LHC forum you're talking about? I'd be curious to see what's goin down over there. Maybe my hair just isn't long enough yet...

Also I support the Hair & Body Care Idea. Even if we had a separate forum there would still be fashionistas just like in the dread forum.

This would be brill, I'll be growing my hair again in about 6 months (need to enjoy the freedom of it being short!) My hair used to be down to my elbows up until 3 years ago when I got so sick of not being able to brush it that I had it all cut off! But my hair is growing really fast, it's trying to tell me to grow it long again.

Count me in. It's not easy being a forty something professional guy with long hair in America these days.

To be a man and to have long hair is empowering, liberating, natural, I don't get what our culture has against it.

Some folks find it uncomfortable being around someone who dares to think for himself. It's also about control. Schools have repressive dress codes that dictate a maximum length for male head hair. Many work places have in place dress codes that specify "proper" hair length and more often, the code is unwritten where gatekeepers employed in human resources find a reason to deny employment to a guy who dares to choose to wear his hair long. The prevailing propaganda suggests that it's a mark of bad character. More often than not Hollywood depicts long haired male characters to be criminals or drug addicts.

Those in charge simply don't like people who think for themselves- that is a major threat to the status quo.

I look a bit like Charles Manson some days when I get out of bed...

It's a threat, no doubt, but what I'm getting at is why it's come about?

Our founding fathers wore wigs, hell, judges wore wigs, obviously there was something about long hair on a man that was of virtue back in the day, how did that change?

ok, so let's start with the threads and see how they do.
I'm thinking in body care for now.
If we see enough, we can ask for a sub, or even a group.

Well said. Great idea for a group, too!

Where I live there are no real dress codes at school, my brother who's at school where I used to be is the living proof of that, With his long hair sideburns and goatie, often a grandpa cap (modelled after Slater the stoner from Dazed and Confused), and long green army coats. :)

The long hair group has been started people.
    It is called FLOWING TRESSES.
And it can be about hair care, your love of long hair on yourself or others, for for that matter fashion.
Some of you have posted there, others haven't yet. It is a wonderful little group.
    Join us if you like.
    Much appreciated.
