Lighting a pipe

I just got a glass pipe and I can't seem to light the bowl without burning my thumb.. dunno if it's the wind just blowing the flame over it or what..
Is there some technique I'm missing?

ummmm, prolly just try it indoors then. I hate the wind when I'm high. Don't stick the lighter on your thumb lol, or is it your thumb on the lighter? 'Cause then it's just.... practice using a lighter.

Edit: You can just call it a bowl in this case, you don't need to be specific. You made it sound like a meth pipe or something.

It's my thumb on the lighter.. lighting it.. =S the flame sort of bends round onto it.. and smoking indoors isnt really an option.

Calling a pipe a bowl is a very american thing... Over here you call a pipe a pipe... You call the bit you put your herbs in the bowl..

I have the solution, don't hold the lighter vertical to the bowl, hold it perpendicular to it.

make sure when you pack the bowl you aren't blocking the hole with weed.
sometimes when it is blocked, when you take a hit off the bowl, the flame won't get sucked onto the weed because it's blocking the hole the smoke is supposed to go through and the flame will bend up and burn your thumb.

 

i love the wind when im high. it seems like mother nature wrapping their arms around me. lol. but i know what you mean.

You want to hold the carb when you're lighting.

Put weed in the hole that is going up and down, put your mouth on the hole that is on the very very end of the other side, put your thumb over the small hole.

 

up and down? why would the holes be going up and down?
