i totally agree Trader Joes can be way cheaper. Whole Foods can as well. Today at Whole Foods I got, all for 75 dollars: an organic mint Julep plant and organic speariment plant a large back of organic compost potting soil organic italian turkey sausage 2 quarts of organic buleberries 1 quart of organic strawberries a bunch of organic bananas organic pasta an organic green peper 3 organic apples a bag of frozen organic blackberries 2 lake champlaign chocolate truffle bars 5 goat yogurts 4 non-fat australian style yogurt and some water and snacks for my almost 2 hour drive to my appoitment. All that organic food would have been insane at walmart or safeway, I must say I was very proud of myself for not buying any cleaning supplies or dog treats. I can easily drop almost 50 bucks on dog treats if I am not careful.
they have food at off the wall mart? we've got those and sam's club and costco arround here too, i never go to any of them. most of them arn't easy to get to on the bus, and anything to do with sam wall incorporated i pretty much avoid having anything to do with, for several zillion excellent reasons, aside from having no real reason to want or be attracted to anyway. 7-11 is six blocks away (i walk once a week to get milk). bel-aire is 12 (about 50/50 bus or walk). trader joes is about 16 or so (usually bus, sometimes walk). those are the closest. i don't think we have a place called whole foods. sounds good. we do have a place called denios, which is, well started out as a weekend auction lot, but they have like a perminent farmer's market in there, (in addition to a really major flea market), but they charge like five bucks just to get in (they charge venders quite a bit too, but there's always hundreds of them), before you actually buy anything in there. most of our plants, soil supliments, potting soil, that sort of thing, one of the drugstore chains, rite aide, which used to be thrifty, has a plant department, and some of the big hardware stores like home depot do. (you, belladisorder, live in sparks? or verdi, or out toward pyramid? i've lived in reno a couple of times myself. glad to know they've got a trader joes there too. oh wait, how far did you say you drive to go shopping? i forgot that part, so maybe you live down by carson or even in truckee. i started kindergarten there, and lived on top of donner summit at norden for a while too. when we lived there we always went to reno or carson to shop. i'm in roseville now, incase you hadn't guessed from the denios mention) =^^= .../\...
Kroger, Meijer, WallyWorld, Scam's Club, IGA, Aldi's.....GFS (which may or may not sell groceries...never been inside) I think that's it.
Oh, man...we have this place called Jungle Jim's...it's a HUGE grocery with domestic and imported foods from all over the world. Google it...it's pretty damn cool. They have the best produce in the area aside from farmer's markets. Too far away for me to shop there on a regular basis.
Kroger, Star Market, Wal-Mart, Costco, Piggly Wiggly, Food Value, Publix I think that's about it. Star Market is within walking distance but their prices are ridiculous. Publix has a great selection but I can't afford to shop there. When I go grocery shopping I first hit the farmer's market for vegetables/fruit and what I can't find there I get the rest at Kroger. They have a good selection and good prices.
I usually shop at either Waitrose or Sainsbury's, sometimes at Marks & Spencer. There's also Co-op, Tesco, Asda (same chain as wal-mart), Morrisons, Somerfield... I'm sure I'm forgetting a few.
Walmart, Kroger, Publix, Ingles x2, there is a tiny latino grocery store....that's about it. Ingles at west side is the closest one to me, so that is where I usually shop.
Kroger, Marsh, Bloomingfoods, Sav-a-Lot, Sahara Mart, Aldi. Bloomingfoods and Sahara Mart are both locally owned and operated, but they have multiple stores, so I consider it a chain.
piggly wiggly, food lion, ingles and wal-mart. i guess you could consider dollar general a half a supermarket.. and they are a chain.. thats pretty much where we shop since we basically only buy coffee flour and sugar and they are BY FAR cheapest for those items..
Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeez, I didn't realize how many different chains there were around here it's all Acmes and Shoprites.. theres also a Wegmann's and a Superfresh
Giant, Wegmans, Acme, Genuardi's, ShopRite, Trader Joe's, and Whole Foods just the normal stuff up here in PA.
Hey We live in Fernley, a small town an hour east of Reno. I work in Reno, Pyramid, Yerrington, Carson City and Fallon though. So I get to see all over. They have SUper Wal Marts out here that have a full grocery store in them as well as the normal Wal Mart stuff. Denios sounds like a cool place. Where do you live?
tesco, sainsburys, waitrose, asda, morrisons, aldi, and lidl used to but it closed down... oh yeah co-op, somerfield and M&S.
