I found a nice small / long / cheap latch-hook and got my sister to pull all my loose hairs into my roots and it looked great until I slept on it then it was fuzztastic again, after 2 days it was basicly back to square one.

So i was wondering does anyone else bother with them, are there any benefits other than neater hair, and is the a knack / technique to keeping things looking nice? Also did anyone pay DH-HQ's extortionate price for one?

They have them at dollar stores where I'm from, pretty cheap. I've not really used one on myself cause I'm basically lazy, however I have a dread girl who uses her magic fingers and a tool like this on my head, it takes about an hour and costs me $40. I figure there are women out there who spend hundreds at salons I can treat myself every few months to this without feeling guilty.
I usually sleep with a scarf on my head for the first few weeks of having it done to preserve the work and give the worked in strays time to latch on. It's normal for things to fall out though, at least for me it is. Try a silky scarf of a silky pillow case it will help.

yeah...i paid the 7$ or whatever it was for that cheap piece of plastic. I didnt even realize what it was, otherwise I would have taken my money to my local craft store a bought a nicer one for less $$....I've learned from my mistakes

Latch hooks are better for pulling your tips up, so you can have really blunt ends. For fluff you might be better off using a felting needle, plus you can use wool with them to dread wool into your hair. Can do all sorts of designs and patterns, there's a big thread about it somewhere actually if i remember rightly.
