In case anyone is in the area this summer, I highly recommend you visiting a town called Owen sound for their 3 day music festival called Summerfolk.

    http://www.summerfolk.org/

There are camping sites available if you wanna stay for the full 3 days, and I guarantee a fun time, chilling by the sites, smoking a joint, guitar circles everywhere, a beer tent close by. Not to mention the music is fabulous, and they have free drum circles, smaller venues with a closer interaction with the performers. All in all it's just a fun time.

If you want more information about the festival, or Owen Sound, let me know. :)

I'm bummed that Nathan Rogers isn't coming back this year, and I wanted to see Trevor Mills play.

how (and where) is camping for the festival? are there decent informal jams goin on round a campfire?

I'm defineatly interested cause I'll be missing out on my normal summer folk fest (shelter valley) due to it being the weekend of my sisters wedding

    Yes, and yes.

There is a park across the street from Kelso Beach Park where you don't have to pay or anything. You just pick a spot to camp. That's where I will be staying, and I'm going early to get a good spot. Tons of people jam around the campfires there, performers who were at the festival and attendees. You may not get the best sleep on the last day of the festival there, but it's very safe. They have washrooms, showers, and a place that sells firewood.

They have artisans who set up kiosks and a food village with unique international foods & organics at SummerFolk. They have a Children's Village, First Nations' cultural workshops, and there is an Open Stage sharing circle type performance stages that are open to anyone who wants to sit down and jam. A lot of effort goes into making it an eco-friendly event as well, so you don't have to worry.

They have a map on their website: www.summerfolk.org

    You should check it out!

I went to this as a kid, didn't enjoy it then. I wouldn't mind checking it out this year.

It was a lot of fun.

I went to a drumming circle with David Amram which was pretty awesome. He's a great guy with a lot of wisdom to share. I did a fire poi workshop that was neato, met Le Vent Du Nord, played some frisbee, danced some, drank some beer and relaxed.

Great festival for camping and constant music.

All in all this year I had a blast. I had a campsite across from the festival, it got a little out of hand at some points, but all in all the experience was very much needed. I'm sad it's over now. The drumming circle I attended on Sunday made me really want to buy a hand drum... Sitting around the campfire with drums and guitars really made me want to be able to join in. Maybe next year I'll be pro. :p

    Awesome, possum!

However, I don't think I'll be able to get vacation off next year. I have a wedding to help organize and attend the weekend after next year. :(

BTW, I just looked at your pics which are great. I totally camped right across the road from you in the short & weird looking trailer.
