I plan on attending college somewhere in Ontario and i checked out a couple of schools i found in london and toronto. These two cities are really the only cities that intrested me and i wanted to hear anyones input on the party life, shopping, peoples attitudes towards americans, ect. oh and when i say party life, can u include the popular drugs in the area ? thanks =)

If you're in NYC and it suits you, you'd prefer Toronto (lots of violent crime, poverty, pollution, etc.). As for schools, Ryerson is good, and UofT is not.

UWO is a great University and Fanshawe is a college with a good reputation. They're both in London. London's more relaxed than Toronto, but still a fairly large city with much to do.

On to the drug question. London was known for decades as "Speed City". These days, however, it's better known for pot-smoking (a large community) and pharmaceutical opiates (lots of bargain basement junkies here). I'm also aware of there being a moderate amount of cocaine and MDMA use going on. As for drugs sold on the street and parties/raves, I have no clue. I'm thirty-five years old.

You mentioned shopping. London is a very mallfull city. There's a lot of money in the city, so there are also a lot of ways and places to spend it.

Depends on what you are going to school for, but the whole Ryerson vs UofT topic is really a matter of opinion. I went to Sheridan college for photography vs Ryerson, and I am so glad that I did. Everyone I met that went to Ryerson for photography hated it and wished they went to Sheridan, and everyone who went to Sheridan was just so happy with their experience, there was absolutely no regrets.

As for shopping, Toronto has a huuge shopping scene (I live right downtown where I am surrounded by stores and clubs), though I would rather go up the street to Kensington and get clothes there, all vintage and usually much cheaper.

From what I know about London, they are mainly known for their blow, and toronto... well, whatever you want, it's here.

London isn't too exciting, but around the Fanshaw area there is a huge amount of parties that happen around there, usually keggers filled with frat type boys... personally not my taste.

Toronto has much more excitement, house parties (if you know the right people) that are usually in big houses that are just off the main streets (no one would ever even know they were there unless they were told, for some reason when people are down here they only seem to notice the stores), tons of clubs and after hours clubs, and just to give you a little idea of how much Toronto (especially queen street) loves to party, one night all the after hours clubs had been busted (since they are illegal) and so all the club goers at 2 am just went out on the street, pulled up some cars with powerful speakers and blasted music as everyone partied on the streets!

Go to mac it's in Hamilton and it's one of the best schools in the world.

Anywhere in Hamilton is good for drugs if thats what your looking for, theres a constant supply weed, E, Coke, LSD (if you know people), Shrooms

Everything is here since the city is run by the Hells Angels (drug wise).

I go to UWO in London. It's full of rich snobs and hot girls who wear ugg boots. There are a couple neat programs.

But... ummm... what program are you interested in? I don't think that you should base your decision on drugs, partying and lifestyle of the campus. It depends what it is that you want to do.

It's expensive for a US citizen to attend college in Canada, and you should apply for as many grants as you possibly can. Also, our schools are much more competitive and difficult compared to the colleges in the USA, so you're in for a tough academic adjustment.

when he says Mac he's talking about McMaster Univeristy.

which raises a point for any american's looking for 'colleges' here in ontario. What you refer to as a college is known as a university here, what we call college is more like a trade school, applied arts and technology kind of stuff.

just google ontario universities and you'll have plenty to look through

as for the OP: if your main criteria for a school is what the drug scene is like then man, you have some issues. And unless you have the money to throw away I'd say stay where you are cause it sure aint no cake walk to graduate up here. I know your young man, but fuck dude, that's beyond stupid and a sure fire way to flunk. Unless your just talking about a bit of herb(incoent enough), in which case your'e good just about anywhere.

Trust me, the novelty of being young and able to party and drink your face off and do stupid shit wears off real quick, usually by the end of your first year, maybe second. After that, unless you're enjoying what your taking and the local culture your going to have a miserable time.

IMO good cities for school and campus life in Ontario would be Guelph(U of Guelph), Kitchener/Waterloo (U of Waterloo and Laurier), Peterborough (Trent), Kingston (Queens) and Ottawa (Carleton/U of Ottawa). Infact Toronto and London would be two of my last choices.

You may want to check out Nipissing University in North Bay, depending what you want of course.

    http://www.nipissingu.ca/

North Bay has whatever you may want in terms of doing things (and drugs), yet still has a very small town type feeling to it.

Hey I'm going to London for Fanshawe College. From what people have told me it is a kick ass city, I can't wait to move out there. I hope to see you out there!

I was accepted to fanshawe but the res was full so I'm stuck with conestoga in Kitchener.
London is a party town but as mentioned above UWO is full of stuck up rich kids. Waterloo has 2 universities, and is apparently the smartest city in Canada; home of the blackberry.

Well, they don't call it "Fun-Shawe" for nothing, I guess.

    Good luck.

Well, I live in London Ontario, it really is quite a beautiful town with nice people. There isn't really much American hate/dislike here except for the odd tease, nothing really serious. I'm not much into drug use but I do know that one of my friends actively obtains marijuana and shrooms.

And I've went to both schools in London, and Funshawe is definitely the better of the two. I never thought there would be so many people around here who lives in London. Where have you all been 8(. I moved here for school a few years back and have yet to make many new friends that I get along with, so I'm pretty much a loner ;p

True dat...I don't understand why people move here unless it's for school or their career. I cannot ever picture myself actually living living in London as in permanently after age 30. For some reason, I just want out and I don't know why..

Anyways, back to the topic... UWO is a great school, I'm pretty sure it's mostly known for sciences and business, but not entirely...A lot of people like the University colleges like Brescia (female only) and King's (I think Kings has a good reputation), or of course "Funshawe" and Westervelt...but westervelt is more of...Well, I dunno what I'd call it, like tech school or something...I don't know.
