Y'know, I have taken a recent interest in nudism. I don't know why, but it has become something of a 'fantasy' for me. At one time, I thought it was weird and disgusting, but then I read about it, and heard other's experiences, and thought that it could be fun and interesting. Disregarding the sexual aspects of it, I want to try it around others to experience a new level of personal freedom, not because I want to see others naked. To be honest, I really DON'T CARE what anybody looks like naked. A body is a body, however it looks, and I wish others would just accept that. I don't care if somebody's fat, or just right, or even really, really skinny, because it's their body and that's how they want to keep it. So anyway, back on topic. When I see nudists (online, but I haven't in person), they're normally all either European or Caucasian. I don't recall ever seeing anybody outside of those two races; I haven't seen a single African American nudist, Japanese, Mexican, etc. For that reason, I feel like I'd be completely out of place. Being black myself, I have this feeling like I wouldn't be accepted (though from looking around, this might not be true). And for that matter, my parents would COMPLETELY disagree with how I feel. I know full well they couldn't accept it, EVER. And for that reason, I'm never nude around them, and only very rarely (for a few minutes), when I can (because it's a thrill). In the end, I wish that the whole world could try it, and disregard the sexual aspects and just enjoy the freedom as everyone else does. That way, everybody could get used to their bodies and accept everyone else's, and the taboo associated with nudism wouldn't be as prominent. And that way, we would all be a lot more comfortable in our bodies, and perhaps, if taught right, kids and teens wouldn't be as interested or care as much about sex (Being 16 going on 17, I know that feeling ). Ah, but oh well. I don't think there's any nudism places in DE. Just wanted to get that out, and see other's opinions. Thanks if you reply! EDIT: I lied about my age in my profile. I'm still 16
hi, blade rain, i am a gay, african american, nudist's and a barefooter. there are many nudist organizations. at the majority of the nudists events, that i have attended, i have been the only black person there. however, i did not preceive any racial attitudes by the attendees. it is just unfornate that skin color seems to dictate how people interact socially. you are not the only one. don't let a lack of african american members pervent you for joining a nudists organization. you will find that nudists are more accepting of diversity, than the mainstream population.
Now that's really refreshing to hear! Thanks for replying, because it'd been a few days and I thought nobody would read this. I'd always felt that the nudist population would be far more accepting than the mainstream, but I let 'fear' or nervousness/doubt take over me. If only my parents could understand something like this, and if only the whole world could .
All right, since you asked-- If you went to the Eastern Naturist Gathering, which is held every June in Massachusetts, you'd be able to see a few hundred naturists. The basic naturist uniform comes in a whole range of lovely colors, but you'd be right to expect to see a large majority of the white-shading-to-pink version (some turning a little brown after sun exposure). But there are some of the brown-to-black variety. Not a huge crowd, but enough that you'd see a few. So don't give up all hope! And it's enough fun that some people come from a lot further away than Delaware. When naturists are at their best, they make a fetish out of acceptance of the body and the individual. If you're plump or hairy or saggy or missing a body part here or there--you're a person, and it's OK. Likewise people who are gay or bisexual. So racism should never exist there, if it could exist anywhere. Of course I did say "at their best" and prejudice can be hard to shake off if it once creeps in, so I can't say "That would never happen". It might, but I do believe that for any person who insulted a racial minority member, there'd be a hundred who'd aplogize if they heard about it. Really, naturists want to believe that it's all about being human. Here's another one--there's a well-known Chinese-American naturist artist, called Henry Yuen: http://www.hevanet.com/hjlyuen/beach.htm
Ah, thanks and bless you for the reply! I feel like I now know there's no reason to fear prejudice. Thanks!
I've noticed on the nude beach in Brighton, England we do see black people from time to time but never Asians - though I think that's due more to attitudes within their own communities than to any prejudice from the majority.
I've noticed the same thing at Brighton, other nudist beaches, and in saunas. I've seen a few Asians but still rare. The cost of using saunas, nudist clubs etc and their location may be a factor too.
I am also a person of color, and I have not encountered any sort of prejudice whatsoever (outdoor nude place or otherwise). I might be lucky, but most treat me with respect and kindness. Really you don't have to worry, just be yourself and don't be a pain. Yes most people seem to be caucasian (around here), but that doesn't matter either. Besides, I have seen people of color every time I have visited one of these places (the few times I have), pictures on the internet tend to show a limited cross-section of people. Just like in all walks of life, you will always find diversity in people. Just be yourself, only character matters.
