how do I disassociate things? like, every time i hear certain bands or songs or movies I think of people, moments, times, and get all nostalgic or sad. It's cool to associate things like that sometimes, but sometimes I just want to hear music to hear music, and not have to think about certain people and memories. I can't seem to just listen to this album and not think about someone. It's kind of ruining it for me.

You're already removing your attachment to things when you realize they rub you the wrong way. Its a start.
As for music triggering memories, the cure is quite simple.

You broaden your musical interests to include music you've never heard before. It gives you a clean slate to enjoy music.

I listen to a wonderful public radio station all day. One of the best I've ever had the pleasure of. They play lots of international music. I never hear a song repeated in a day.

Stop listening to crappy commercial radio.

Thanks for assuming I listen to "crappy commercial radio." I listen to all different types of music. That's not the point anyway. The point is, there are certain songs, bands, and albums that I connect with things, and I want to just listen to them and not do that.

that happens to everybody, seems like youve had a lot of different experiences while listening to music, like xexon said, check out new stuff for awhile, then maybe if you do hear something that has affected you before you wont think the same way, you'll have a new interst in music, thats what helped for me.
